Kitazawa Seeds catalogue came in the mail today. Lots of interesting seeds for plants, most of which won't grow well down here (heat) , but a lot will. They even had Woo's Balloon root plant in there.

Nothing here yet, but tomato and pepper seeds have all been ordered (mostly received) and this is the earliest ever. This year's heat and drought was so disappointing I started thinking of next year before the ground froze solid and the first snowflakes fell. Planning was always a winter thing, but waiting was too difficult. I even have some pumpkin seeds and my wife had me order a whole bunch of herb seeds. So now what am I going to do when winter comes?

This year's heat and drought was so disappointing Bummer. I feel your pain. So now what am I going to do when winter comes? While you're waiting for spring, surprise your wife with an indoor mini herb garden with a cheap shelf unit and lights, or an old aquarium as a terraium. Set it up in the kitchen where it'll get lots of use if you've got some room.

This past week (last week of November 2012) 6 or 8 showed up. Aren't they out earlier than normal this year?

Izzy: It won't be a surprise to begin a herb garden. She has already asked me to start the herbs indoors. I will begin seed starting next week, so I do have something to do this winter, I guess. I usually don't start growing tomatoes until March but again this year I will be conducting classes for a local community college on seed starting and to show all the stages from seeds in the dirt to plants ready for transplanting outdoors, I have to begin in mid-December. So there will be tomatoes, peppers, herbs, flowers and whatever else comes to mind.
I save all the catalogs and give them to beginning gardeners at the classes. There are more this year than normal as well as being early.

Not having heard of Osborne Seed before, I Googled it. I see they have a new Sungreen F1 green cherry tomato from the same breeder of Sungold. 25 seeds for $8.05. Yikes!
