Are you signed up for ALL of the seed companies' catalogs, Strat? I've never even heard of a couple of those companies, and I thought I had been on just about everyone's mailing list at one time or another.

Hi, LinFL. This year I'm receiving way more catalogs than usual. I've never even heard of McClure & Zimmerman and Select Seeds before. Right off the bat I'm seeing a cool Amaranth in Select Seeds, 'Green Thumb'.

So you can give the neighbors the, err....thumb...in a new color this year, right? Seriously, although I am not usually a fan of green flowers and seed heads, that's really pretty. Something about the way the seedheads catch the light makes them look almost velvety. That color and shape make some of them look almost like the plants have little Christmas trees growing on top of them. I am pretty much done with seed orders for this year. I am going to have to start shredding seed catalogs to remove the temptation to order more seeds that I have nowhere to plant.

I should pack up all the seed catalogs I've received so far and send them to DLD. His outhouse would be stocked for the summer.
Piennolo del Vesuvio (red) and Bear Creek (black) are in Sandhill tomato section. Blame Bear Creek on Keith. It is a very good flavored slicing tomato.

Whole bunch of seed co's I have never heard of listed on this thread.
Moi? I've already received: The Cottage Gardener. Nice varieties of heirlooms but it's one of those newsprint B&W catalogues. Last year I ordered perennial Kitaibelia vitifolia from them and actually got the darn thing to germinate and bloom, all in Year One.
West Coast Seeds. I want to order their leaf lettuce variety "Brunia". This is some beautiful, from the picture, anyway.
And Johnny's catalogue has arrived. What a great guide for growing anything.
I sent Baker Creek $4.95 for their catalogue ages ago but haven't gotten it yet. I guess if you live in the USA and you ordered from them last year they send you a free catalogue, but not here in Kanuckistan.
Sure hope Stokes will hurry up and send me their catalogue, too.

I got five plant/seed catalogs yesterday. After looking through them a bit, I really noticed how many stock photos the catalogs share. Stock descriptions, too.
Then I looked on the back and they all have exactly the same "account number" on them - even the catalogs I have never ordered from have my account number. Aha - so they are ALL owned by the same company. Makes you wonder how many truly separate seed companies there are actually are.
Which is one of the nice things about the Baker Creek catalog - you know it's independent, because it's different. I enjoy the little bits of history and origin provided for some of the varieties. The photos are gorgeous, and they aren't just like the photos in every other catalog. The other thing I like about the photos is that not all of their vegetables look perfect - some have little blemishes on them, they aren't all 100% evenly colored, etc. The hands in the photos have calluses on them, and dirt under the fingernails. They look like real veggies grown by real people...not like the polished and airbrushed supermodels of the vegetable world one usually sees.

Got a catalog yesterday from Horticultural Products and Services, Inc. I'm not sure how I got on their list, because they are geared to growers and not homeowners. In the last few days I've also gotten a catalog from Gurney's and a flyer from Aerogarden. I had a good laugh at the prices for the Aerogarden. It's supposed to be a good system, but I am not going to spend $279 to grow one dwarf tomato plant indoors! But I wonder why I haven't gotten a Pinetree catalog yet.

I like HPS! For my bulk seeds, I'll buy from them. They are owned by one of the major seed catalog companies.
