Hey everyone. This looks like a great place from the little I've had a chance to read so far!
I live in southeast Arkansas, so I'm not doing much in the way of gardening now. Just have a small garden since our daughter is grown with her own family now, just my husband and myself to feed. I used to do a lot of canning, but now that it is just the two of us, and my husband retired almost three years ago, we prefer not to be tied down with a big garden.
I already have a question for the members here. What is the Florida Weave mentioned in the poll?

Welcome, Tressa. I haven't tried the Florida weave method. The gist of it: Posts are pounded in the ground and twine is strung between them holding the plants up. More twine is added higher up as the season progresses and the tomatoes grow taller. Here are a couple links where Txdirtdog talks about Florida weave including pictures. In the 1st one, he has the posts pounded in before he has planted and talks about the specifics a little. notjusttomatoes.proboards.com/post/3070In the 2nd one, you can see the Florida weave in action from afar and closer up with the string holding up the tomato plants. notjusttomatoes.proboards.com/post/5309Hope that helps.

stratcat thank you for the explanation. I tried a similar method in the past, but didn't have a name for it. Looking at the dates of the post links you provided, I see there are people here who can plant much earlier than I can here in Arkansas. I'm looking forward to reading new methods that might make my small garden better.

Your very welcome, Tressa. What do you like to grow in your garden? Tomatoes, of course, okra (a necessity in this part of AR), straightneck squash, lettuce, radishes, onions, sometimes cucumbers (for pickles). The list has gotten smaller with the smaller garden, but these are the necessities for us.

I've visited a lot of forums in the past year while spending a lot of time getting help and helping others on Proboards Support, but this is the first forum I have been interested in enough to join. All the other forums I am a member of are scooter related.

Hi, Jason! Welcome! As it turns out, we have folks from MS and other parts of the Gulf Coast, plus other experienced gardeners from all over. So ask away! If you tell us what you want to grow and where you will be growing (in the ground, in raised beds, or in containers) we can help you get started. Since you're near the MS coast, now is the time to do your planning and prepare your growing area - the ideal planting time for warm-weather crops in your area starts soon.

Thanks, I have an extensive list I'm planning on. My main concern is companion planting. I hope to learn that and how to work toward organic gardening. My mom is a vet in many ways, but she's not concerned with organic gardening. I hope to weigh in soon with some questions.

Hello everyone, My name is Ethan. I'm a landscaper & gardener in Vermont. I've been a member of Idigmygarden forum since 2009 and have recently joined a few other boards. It's been a trialing past few years with limited gardening (personal) time and space but this year is looking excellent. I'm interested in heirlooms, landraces, wild foods, wild flowers, alternative growing methods, experimental crop acclimation and basic vegetable/foodcrop breeding (just an amateur pollen duster), and lots of random things related to DIY. But most of all, I'm into eating straight out of the garden, best feeling on earth , well that and cooking french fries. God I love potatoes. This looks like a fun place I'm glad to already see some familiar faces. I hope I can help here and there but most of all learn. Thanks for the link DayLilyDude! See you guys around!

I am from north central Indiana and I am looking forward to learning new things on this forum. I have been gardening for over 30 years and I just love growing anything. I have no particular favourite thing to grow but I am found of miniature roses and tomatoes. Probably a lot of peoples favorites. I do love rescuing plants and finding long lost plants on abandoned farms or where old houses used to be. I enjoy taking cuttings and growing plants from seed. This year I am going to try growing alpine strawberrys from seed. Also I am helping my oldest son with his first bee hive. Thanks

Welcome! Nice to "meet" you. With so much gardening experience, I bet we will be learning new things from you, too! Alpine strawberries sound nice. I have never tried them, because I have heard they are not very happy in Florida. I will be interested to see how they do for you.

hi, i am MB3 i live in central Ohio, have gardened off and on for 20 years or so more off due to living in rentals with no place to garden. I garden organically, and on a limited budget of basically nothing, so basically I compost and use hummonia to amend my heavy clay soil (I do also have azomite). I love tomatoes, peppers, loads of different greens and herbs and corn and.... anything I can cram in a small space. =)

Gee...for some reason, I never knew about here, before. I just found about it last night. But there are quite a number of familiar faces here, so it feels like home, already.
