Just got done finishing the final wood post for my new border around my main garden. Well at least the long side. I still have to move my 4.5' cubed compost bin that is overflowing then finish the short side. Put on the boards and than I am done. Well after I cut off the excess post. Than I 'm done, well, after I modify all my metal fence post to fit right than I'm done. Well after I modify the fencing to fit than I'm done. Okay not really than I have to redirect my drain pipe coming from my downspout that goes right through my garden that I tilled over a few years ago than I'm done.
Wait there's more than I have to start planting than taking care of than removing all the plants at the end of the season. Than adding amendments.
Crap I don't think I will ever be done. ;D

I was sitting out on my favorite chair.....took Kermit out on a leash and he sat on his favorite chair...haven't done that since last October or so......We are in the North Country.......was thinking about this weather.....sunny, about 70 degrees, very unusual but not unheard of...just hasn't happened for awhile....so I got out a rake, moved the 12' X 12"x2" board that will be one side of some raised beds I plan on....raked dead leaves, pulled out a stored picket fence and filled a place along my lattice fence with compost I picked up Sunday....pruned the two raspberry bushes I have and moved rocks....then sat back with Kermit and went over in my head how I am going to get the new raised beds in and where they will go, what shape they will be and how long it will take to remove an old fence in front. All that tired me out but we could get 70 degree weather for the next 6 days or so......but then Minnesota weather will change.....probably a blizzard or at least a dumping of snow and cold temps again till April......better start something in winter sow containers and get the balcony greenhouse going....here, you take a chance if you put something in the ground before May 1st.......15th is safer......but maybe global warming is changing that....Seen about everykind of weather up here except global warming...that is new.....well, I'll keep the sand and snow shovel out yet........that's all folks. All that thinking tired me out.

Well I have had spring fever this past few days,ok not spring fever but a fever which I thought would turn into flu and thank goodness it didn't. I have been digging over one of the beds ,I'm slower each passing year, half of its done. Considering dragging out the mower the other day to do the first cut but the minute I do I know it will rain so I will leave that for a while. Walked around the garden with the baby this morning shes stumbling but keeping up ,her fascination with such simple things like little bug on a leaf infectious,we explored for a good while.

Looked for peas and garlic to be coming up. Not yet!
Worked a bit on my chicken wire fencing and added a couple more stakes. Got to keep rabbit boy out this year.
Dragged my 1OO' - 3/4" diameter hose out of the garage and hooked it up. Hosed off Mom's car.
Gently raked some leaves off my flower bed.

Went out in the garden area to look around today. Still a few stubborn patches of snow despite almost 70 degree weather today. My dog Shadow tagged along to do some sniffing. Hope this warm weather stays but March is notoriously fickle in the north.

All the tomatoes are in, squash seed planted. All peppers in the ground. My re-done arbor will be going up today and I can move all the "junk" around it and put my glads in! Mid 80's today!

Been 30-37 F. degrees above normal lately, so I am taking advantage of this to haul chicken manure to the garden. Won't be seeding anything just yet, I am sure there's a snowstorm or two in our future here on our unpredictable prairie!
Normal is 30 F. degrees. It was 67 yesterday and supposed to be in the 70s today. What the hel is going on...

Today not much but rain. Yesterday we went out and started weeding and checking raised beds. AND! Last spring I bought about 1/2 pound of sun chokes at local growers market. I used most but there were a few left. I tossed a couple in a potato tub (got a few chokes at the end of summer). I also put some in in a 2x2x3 raised bed with two tomatillo plants. The flowers were amazing. This year we decided to move that box. What did we find sun chokes. I am guessing there are about 100# in that box, they are solid. We dug up a bowl, I put some in with the corned beef and cabbage. Needless to say the box isn't moved yet, I just can't justify wasting all the chokes. What to do with the rest? I am going to try and dry some. Any suggestions???

horsea,,,,,at 110 yrs old, you must have seen a few of these odd weather patterns.......we have had 7 record temps in the last 9 days so it is indeed unusual but I won't put anything in the ground yet....making raised beds and verticle supports for now....getting ready for gardening after the snow storms which will come...rain Mon/Tues tho.....jet stream out of whack?

Hi, citycat. I'm more like one-half of 110 years old. Don't know how that happened.
No, of course we shouldn't get overexcited and start seeding! But I seem unable to stay out of the garden so am tidying things up, making new hills of manure & soil for the squash-to-come, etc. etc. I get new soil from the root of large upturned trees in a nearby forest. Heh, heh, I guess I'm breaking the law since it is public land.
What are "vertical supports"? Do you mean trellis thingies for the tomatoes and vining peas? How large are your raised beds and how many? My raised beds are of scrap material so it's not a beautiful garden...

I just started most of my tomato seeds on Sunday, along with peppers and basil. I have a few tomato plants ready to go in the ground from a germination test that I let grow. I am debating popping them in the ground to see what happens. If they die, no harm as they were just going in the compost bin anyway.

I had an abundance of flat-pod italian pole beans. So I sowed a few early, in all this heat. If winter tries to come back for extra innings I still have enough to re-plant later.
If it aint global warming then its gotta be plate tectonics, wake me up when we get to Belize.

Yesterday, I saw the first pea popping at 14 days.
The weather was still 40F above average today. I watered the pea patch, brought hanging baskets out from garage and dug up the heeled-in containers in the garden. Dug a black raspberry out of whiskey 1/2 barrel.
So hot, I sat outside in the shade reading for some time.

Nothing going on about 5 inches of rain in the last two days. It is so wet but much needed filled up all our lakes. I went out with my flashlight saw a bunch of my bean seed floated to the top was poking them back down. Will check when the sun comes up for more that got washed out of the rows.

At least you have your priorities straight - first the garden, then the furniture and toothbrush.

Thursday, I noticed Violets flowering in the lawn out back. Daffodils are already blooming. In the Cottage Garden, I'm seeing some volunteer 'Gloriosa Daisies' and what I expect are volunteer 'Bright Lights' Swiss Chard. Garlic are coming along. In the Hellstrip, I'm seeing some of my perennials waking up this week. The three 'Stella d'Oro' daylilies I divided last year and moved are up. Coral Bells. Some other stuff.
