Cornishwoman-there is perfume from the datura! It smells sweetly at night-stinks during the day! I have always had trouble with aphids on them, too, but this year it's spider mites-I wash and spray, and in 2 days, I have to do it again! GRRRRR.

Did some weeding today. Moved 2 of my tomato plants to a better location. They were not looking so hot. Hopefully they'll enjoy their new digs and won't be too shocked from the transplant.
All my 32 mater plants except for maybe 4 are looking very good so far. My bush beans are up and looking good too. I did plant a few more bush beans today where the other plants either didn't take, or the critters got to them. Mowed the lawn and used the clippings as mulch.
That's about all there is to do here! ;D

I am enjoying this rain since I have my garden all mulched in with weed block under it.. well I got ONE of my gardens finished.. so I won't have to be weeding it next week..

Got a much needed rain late yesterday afternoon, so won't be getting in there too early as it needs to dry a little, so I think I'll mow the yard today!

We got almost a quarter-inch of rain overnight and this morning. Not a lot, but it's been really dry here, so we'll take it! Looks like it's clearing up now. The sky is clearing up now, so I am waiting for the leaves to dry before I go into the garden and check to see if any melons or 'maters are ripe.

Picked 2 Thessaloniki maters. Better to have 2 homegrown than a barrel of Big Box orbs any day. Picked a gallon of blueberries Mine, all mine. Bring it on! We can't grow blueberries here, but the stores keep trying to sell them. I was in Home Depot a while back and I heard a gentleman ask the clerk what was a good soil for blueberries? He had bought one of the small ones there, and was going to pot it up for his patio. She sold him a big bag of Miracle Grow potting mix. Poor fella - shoulda used those $$ at the grocery store if he wanted blueberries.

BTW we have sense moved the garden to the center of the yard.. ;D

I was looking at my pea vines today dreaming of eating peas!
I filled in tomatoes and peppers where there weren't any or they died. Seeded next cucs and planted next zucs. Seeded gourds. Started trellising my beans and peas and sprayed fish emulsion and bt on my peps, maters, greens and legumes. I also put out more fishing line for the deer. I was going to seed more corn but there is a killdeer nest there and so I have to prep another bed for corn and wait on that one till the killdeer eggs hatch. Squished only about 4 CPB today.

We're picking spinach, chafed, lettuce, broccoli and cabbage. Not ready yet - tomatoes, onions, garlic, peppers, and strawberries.

I didn't get much done today or yesterday (got a cold, blech).
But I did pick my first ripe cantaloupe of the season today. DH and the kids made it disappear as fast as I could cut it up - it was still warm from the sun when they finished it. ;D

Now that I've tasted maters for the season, lopes and watermellons are the next item I'm really looking forward to. Still have to wait a while. The largest lope is a little larger than an egg (Charlie's Pride) and the only watermellons so far are a couple of Blacktail Mountains that are about golf ball size.
Well, I'm also really looking forward to the sweet corn, as this is the first year I've tried them that I've actually got ears formed. Off to research when to pull the ears.

Good Morning. This year I opted to do things differently. I have a large pot with two organic cherry tomato plants & a smaller pot with garlic chives & fresh dill happening in my bay window. I use a q tip to pollinate & so far it's been working (though a few of the little yellow flowers got clobbered while I learned what 'touch' to give them) & now I've got flowers, small green tomatoes beginning & two nice sized tomatoes waiting to ripen, if only the sun would come back! It's quite exciting to try something different & now I just need sunshine so I can enjoy the tomatoes & herbs. The tomato plants were a red cherry & a yellow cherry - the red one seems stunted & the tomatoes waiting to ripen aren't cherry size (bigger) but the other one is tall, spindly, & has lots of life happening (the red one has two tomatoes, nothing more happening). Odd.

I pulled the last of the silver queen today. I just wait til the silks have turned brown and the ear has some body to it when you give it a little squeeze. Mine this year are smallish (small plot and spotty pollination)...still good though Let your inner racoon out to play and treat yourself to a raw ear in the garden early one morning. You'll think it's a sin and a shame to cook it from there on out, lol.

Well since the longest part of the silks are getting dry, I'll start squeezing. I'll definetely try one in the garden. The corn is looking good and we just got the first hard rain in a while last night, so looks like I'll get the first corn out of the garden ever!

I only have flowers happening on the balcony & it's been a chilly & wet spring so far so until the sun comes out & warms everything up - everything seems to be getting way too waterlogged. Sigh - hope to see summer sunshine & soon! It doesn't have to be super hot - a nice warmth is okay with me.
I've got tiny green tomatoes happening but there's not been enough sunshine to make them do anything - sure hope things brighten up & warm up soon - after all, it's June.

I shucked one and sure enough, it was ready. Me and the kiddos ate that one raw and it was great! Pulled enough ears for dinner and it was well received. If I hadn't been squeezing the ears, I probably would have left it too long as it was about 10 days early on the DTM and I know sweet corn goes downhill pretty quick on the stalk.

Now you and the kiddos can say you are part racoon too Enjoy your corn! I'll have to put on scuba gear if I want to go to the garden today. Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it!
