Lately, I've noticed something has been eating my Marigolds and Salvia out front. The Violet's foliage, too. I suspected mice were the culprits. Sunday, I was checking out the flowers around 6.30p, and out of the corner of my eye I saw a Marigold go over and get pulled on. A little while later I saw a mouse stick his head out. Then he climbed up a Marigold and was gnawing on it to spite me. By the runway, I baited a mouse trap with peanut butter and caught two mice by Monday night. I don't know why they were chowing down on my flowers. Maybe they're thirsty with the dry weather? Building a nest? Thankfully, they waited until this late in the season to make a mess.

What a rare treat, to catch the culprit in the act!

Looking back through my records, a total of 5! I'll have to keep my eyes open this year for those rascals. You can keep your Copperheads, hehe.

Well, the mice are at it again this year. I planted the two crossed dye sunflowers out back in the old guitar pick-shaped flower bed. Chicken wire surrounds that area.
Lo and behold, one day I checked on them and one was a 3" stump and the other one's top was hanging by a thread. I put the top in wet potting mix and got it to root. It's planted out front.
After I mowed this week, Saturday I noticed a mouse runway. I baited a trap with peanut butter and caught a fat mouse right away.

You should have taken Kay up on her kind offer to share her snakes with you.

I'm sure, heheh.
Live trapped a Chipmunk yesterday on my porch. He moved to the country. Out in the backyard, I caught mouse #2 today. Live trapped a big raccoon at Mom's this morning. It has a new ZIP Code...

I'm up to five mice in my backyard, two raccoons and one chipmunk at Mom's. They're all on vacation; the mice permanently.

No more mice in my back yard for now. The last three days I've been live trapping with a vengeance at Mom's. Two black squirrels, four chipmunks and I just caught a nasty red squirrel. I put the livetrap in the trunk for the drive. Well, when I opened the trunk, Houdini, the squirrel, was nowhere to be seen. The trap was empty! I took some junk out of the trunk and nothing. I drove for a while with the trunk open; I hope he jumped out. This is the first time I'm glad my car is NOT a hatchback!

Look out for the "revenge of the squirrels". Part two! The thought of a squirrel loose in a hatchback.....laughter rang thru the air.

A few years ago, I was transporting a chipmunk, in the Havahart Trap, and he got out. He was running around the passenger compartment while I was trying to drive. I was wearing shorts and he ran across my leg, scratching it. I don't have rabies.

It's amazing the havoc squirrels can cause when panicked and confined. I had one run into my garage for some unknown reason. He freaked out and hid rather than running back out the garage door. After much fruitless effort to shoo him out, we decided the best thing to do was just leave the garage open. Several hours later, he left. Did you know that their little claws will scratch car paint?

Monday, I saw something out of the corner of my eye in the backseat, and there was a chickadee. I don't know if he rode with me from Mom's or got in at my place.
I opened the doors and tried to herd him out. When he finally flew, he almost got me in the head. My car was parked in my drive, heheh.

Just caught another red squirrel at Mom's. Dropped him off and came back. Looked out the window and there's another little nasty out there. The trap is set again.
Added: Trap just shut on red squirrel #3 at Mom's. Time to take another drive.

This week, I noticed some of the flowers in my fenced-in Cottage Garden were being eaten on. I thought the rabbit was having a snack. Tuesday when I was watering I noticed a mouse hole in the straw mulch. I set a trap and promptly caught a fat mouse. Wednesday I caught another one.

Oh yah. I have snakes in my garden! And they are good snakes, they eat mice, but I feel like fainting when I see one.
