It always amazes me that such large animals can stay active all winter and find enough to eat in cold climates. Down here there are always a few green things, even if the pickings are slim in January. But up there, with months of snow and ice? I don't know how they survive. I assume they build up summer fat and lose weight in the winter - plus of course they raid the food that humans put out for the birds.

Laura_in_FL, around here we see alot of deer in corn fields they pic up dropped corn left from the farmers and they also nibble on some evergreen trees. Bushes and believe it or not some people feed them. Last year when it was so cold a guy not to far from us had deer go in and out of his barn. Every time we drove by we could see deer walking in and out. It was pretty cool to see. Not there this year. We also see a lot of Turkey!

Nifty photos! We had a deer come right up our front steps, right up to the door, nose to the window in the door. One year I counted a convention of 21 deer a few feet from our back door in the summer.

Too bad, my camera doesn't work well at night, coming home tonight, I was puzzled as to why my neighbor had put her Christmas deer back out...until one moved. There were four deer in her bird feeder area. Still strange after all these years to see them in the city...

Here's a young Deer that came up to the house yesterday. He went into the Juniper for a snack. I would have expected him to eat birdfood on the ground. Bow season now. Rifle season starts on November 15th.

Pretty deer - but I assume your vegetable garden is fenced if the deer are bold enough to come right up to your house in broad daylight.

Hi, Laura_in_FL . This is at Mom's. I only grow some tomatoes in pots here. I think only once foliage got sampled in all these years. For sure, I would have to fence deer out if I had veggies.
