We got 2 1/2" last night, so I guess we were lucky, considering what I'm seeing on the news! The wind was so strong that it blew many of my peppers down that I had staked up (snapped the stakes!), but fortunately, they are resistant - I just staked them up again! It blew my kaffir lime tree down on the deck, due to the fact that it has Soooooooo many leaves on it now, so there is all that for the wind to catch.

I was wondering how you came out with that storm. Some of those rainfall totals are really impressive - I read that Islip, NY got over 13" out of the storm. No wonder there was so much flooding!
Glad your peppers made it through the winds okay. I know your pepper harvests are just kicking into high gear, so you really don't want to lose your plants now.

We have 67F at 12.30pm. Nice fall day. Where did summer go? We got some nice rains lately, and luckily, we missed the deluge that downstate Michigan received on Monday and Tuesday. Here's an expressway picture from the Detroit metro area.

Yesterday, we had a low of 48F outside and 65.5F in my room. That should toughen me up for winter. Got up to 78F late in the day.
Had another cool day today. At 10am, I went out to feed the birds. The rain was just starting and the temp was 61F. Brhh! In the afternoon, I got out for a walk. It was 68F and started to rain lightly before I got back. We ended up with .28" of welcome rain and the temperature did get up to 71F. Looks like we should have a warm-up by next weekend.

Sticky here - 85F with a heat index of 96F at 9:00 a.m. We had a couple of very brief light showers which just steamed things up. The sky is clearing now, so I am going to try to work outside a little before the heat gets completely out of hand. But I need to do what I can today, because the forecast shows hotter weather on the way - real highs are expected in the upper 90s for Thursday through the weekend. They are projecting humid conditions and very little breeze to go with the heat, so it is going to feel like 110F+. Ick. I have a feeling I will be minimizing my outside time then.

Overnight we had 3.15 inches of rain, a little hail and some wind. Preliminary walk around did not indicate damage. No watering the flowers today.

We are in store for the same heatwave... sad thing, with my job, I work outside... just drink lots of water, and yes I drink water from a hose...

Hey, I've drunk water from a hose many times. I haven't done it lately, but when I was a kid, my brother and I were usually outside all day long in the summer. We often had lunch outside, too - sandwiches washed down with water from the hose.
But even then I didn't like this much heat. I got heat rashes almost daily in the worst of summer. That was no fun. Mom went through a lot of calamine lotion in those days.

Clear, 95F and a heat index of 113F already at 11:30 a.m. This afternoon is going to be really rough. The local news is full of warnings to stay out of the sun and tips about avoiding heat-related illnesses. I got my "must do" gardening done this morning and I am staying inside this afternoon except to maybe go swimming later with the kids. But I am going to put them off until nearly dark - I'm sure the pool feels like bathwater.

At 12.30am, we're at 72F with high humidity. That's a degree warmer than the high we had on August 16th. This afternoon, we got up to 80F until a thunderstorm blew through dropping .3" of rain. At least there wasn't any hail nor damaging winds.

Today, we were in the low 80s and had two storms drop 1.O5" of rain. The new rain barrel is full again. Had a Tornado Warning to the north of us. At 11.20pm, we're at 68F; a warm summer night.

Only the third day in August we were in the 90s! And horrible humidity, with a brief, heavy thunderstorm! I had gone out at 6 PM to roast (actually, burn) and peel a bunch of Big Jims and poblanos, and the rain started! It was fast, but a lot came down. And I hear more, now...

We were in the low 80s again today with .58" of rain. For the second day out of the last three, there have been tornado warnings way up north of us. This time there were two confirmed EF-1 tornadoes with wind speeds of 100-110mph. Luckily, there was just some tree and property damage. At midnight, we still have 68F. Plants are growing!

I am glad to hear you talking about summer weather, Strat - all except the tornadoes! But you were so cold/cool up there for so long that I had been worried you wouldn't get any good gardening weather at all. Speaking of glad, finally the scattered thunderstorms decided to rain on my yard instead of missing me. We had good boomers Sunday and yesterday - close to 2" total rain. I water my gardens, but it's hard to give big fruit trees a deep watering. They always seem happier after a soaking rain.

Thanks, Laura. The summer weather has been very welcome, especially the warm nights. We're due to get three more days in the 80s and then... 68F for a high on Saturday. Turns out there were four tornadoes confirmed on Monday. Pretty late in the season; not normal. It's great your rain arrived! The gardens do love God's water.

We got another inch or so last night, after having the worst day of the summer! There may have been one day that had the same temp., but with the humidity, this was the worst heat index of the year. I can't complain, given how hot the last few summers have been!

pepperhead212, that one miserably hot and humid day was to make sure you appreciate how pleasant the rest of your summer has been. I am waiting and hoping for that first cool front of the season. Alas, the long range forecast still shows 90-ish highs, 75-ish lows through mid-month. Hopefully we will keep getting regular rains. Speaking of rain, I got a brief, light rain yesterday afternoon. Not much measurable precipitation, but the clouds and breeze took the edge off the heat for a little while.

It's been cooler here, not quite as cool as Strat has been because we are down state, We did not get all that rain that Detroit got, infact it almost missed us totally! Anyhoo it's nice to set outside and enjoy the cooler weather.

A night of severe storms close-by east across the Missouri River. Northwest Missouri got hammered with 70mph winds a couple of tornadoes and power poles snapped. We had wind and 3.30 inches of rain but no damage. A cool front came through and we are expecting highs of 60s today and 50s tomorrow down from the 90s last week.

We had 79F yesterday with the humidity hanging in the air. After dark, the full moon illuminated a little fog out in the farm fields.
This morning, it's been raining off-and-on, and at 11am, it's 67F. Tomorrow, we're only supposed to reach 58F!

It's been fairly cool here, and today it got to maybe 80, but tomorrow it is supposed to be near 90º, and a severe TS coming through later in the day (hopefully after I get off, and home!), with possibly 2 1/2" of rain. We'll see if they are right this time...

Currently 55 supposed to get up to 63 Woot! Time to smoke some cheese! You got that right! I made a 55 gal barrel drum smoker and it needs to be pretty cool to smoke cheese. One of my favorite things to do. I smoke a bunch of blocks and give away for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Tomorrow night will be hovering around the upper 40's, so time to smoke some cheese. Glad you brought that up.
