I was asked by a suburban person what deer did with peach-pits after they ate peaches.
I told that worthy citizen they used them same as watermellon pips, for target practice. When you see the tail go up, they were sighting in a target...

Haha...if a deer ate my peaches I'd want to use the deer for target practice.

First year in three that I beat the deer to the peaches. Only thing...what would I do with a dead deer carcass if I was able to pop one? Don't like deer meat and the locker that butchers them need to see a license along with the deer. I guess let the bobcats and coyotes take care of it.

You don't know anyone who would be happy to take a freshly-killed deer off your hands? Clearly, you need more redneck relatives.

OOOH, I am surrounded by rednecks, but at least they are relatively law-abiding when it comes to hunting and a deer out of season is a strict no-no. We got hollers, cricks and the pots calling the kittles black. They all done it and seen it and we was this or that, but they'd turn me in in a flash if I shot a dang-blasted deer in the garden.

Law-abiding is good, hypocrisy is not. Guess you are down to fences and repellants until hunting season. If a deer should entirely by accident happen to die on your property before then, you could hold a nice little funeral service for it along the dripline of your peach tree. Then the deer could feed the peaches for once.

Agreed! Although my b-i-l insists I need to get my hunting license now that I'm teaching again and off on weekends. I'm nearsighted and a terrible shot with a rifle. We've always had the agreement that I grow the veggies and grill the meat if he does the hunting and butchering. Ah well, I've always enjoyed camping and fishing; hunting is the next step!

We eat lots of Bambi around here (actually heading out with the bow this weekend to start filling the freezer!) Between me shooting them and the dogs chasing them around, don't get many in the garden.
