We have quite a bit of the stuff growing here and was thinking of putting it on top of the weed fabric around my black berries. Wifey doesn't think this is a good idea, but I don't see the harm. Anyone have an opinion?

I assume you won't be including the seed heads! I don't know how long the stuff takes to break down, or how long the edges of the leaf blades will remain sharp. But I think it would be a decent enough mulch. The trick will be installing it without cutting yourself to ribbons.

billh, I'm not sure, but my wild blackberries grow from runners and spread like crazy, so I couldn't use the weed fabric, but I do use shredded leaves around mine... but that's just me...

daylilydude Laura_in_FL I don't have the fabric tight around my berries, just up close. I'm mainly mulching the rows between the berries because I've found it's a little tight for a mower in the summer. I hadn't really thought of the seed heads, so that idea may go to the ditch and burn this fall.

No seed heads or roots and you should be fine. Put either (seeds or roots) in contact with soil and your begging for a grassy undead invasion.

All this stuff about "pompas" grass sounds a bit "pompous" to me. I think I'll find some "pampas" grass instead.
