Partly cloudy, some sun occasionally, but so far around 2PM it's still only 48F !!!! Supposed to get to 50F, but I don't think it's gonna make it! Time to start hauling the big house plants back inside again this weekend.

Early today, when I was out, before 9 am, it was 72°, but dropping, and the breeze was finally starting to kick in. I knew I wouldn't have enough time to finish that row out there, so I just cleaned up even more, and set everything to where they weren't going to blow away, as the gusts were up to 40 mph, by noon, and the rain came around 1:30 pm. It didn't last long, and only totalled .03", even though it soaked everything! Temps down to 64° now, and should drop quickly, now the sun is down. 62° is the forecast high for tomorrow, and tonight is supposed to be the first time in the 40s since sometime in May. Might have to dig my jeans out, for that wind tomorrow!

Well, it didn't get down past 50° in my back yard, and it is still 57°, and it is almost 11 am! And wind is 19 mph, and that's not the gusts! I got my jeans out (first time since May), along with a long sleeved garden shirt, though I don't need the flannels yet! That rain we got yesterday was just enough to wet things, and be a spoiler, but was only a total of .03". Only a 62° forecast high today and tomorrow, and another windy one tomorrow, but a little less. Even close to 3:30 pm, I hadn't done much out there, due to that wind - hopefully, tomorrow will be a little less windy, though the temp isn't supposed to get any higher.

It rained just about all day yesterday, and a little more info this morning, but the total was only .53". And only got to 55° yesterday. Putting those leaves on the garlic bed was good - it is already windy out there, like they predicted, and supposed to get worse. It was very sunny early, but already some clouds are showing, and possibly some rain later, though I don't plan on any garden work today, unless I just have to get something like garlic chives or other herbs.

Finally we are getting a sunny day, but it's still windy, 10mph with gusts to 30mph, still only 54F at noon, it's a bit chilly if you have to be in the wind. We never got more than a few drops of rain, but it's been dark overcast and windy the past week. Still have not had a real freeze here, but scattered areas of light frost. I covered the pepper bed on the coldest night, and they survived the other nights uncovered. Day times remain chilly, so the growing season is over, but I'd rather leave the peppers on the plants, than in bags in the garage until I have time to slice/chop and freeze them.

It hit 60° already, but it is very windy - 30-35 mph gusts. Sunny, so far, but might get some showers later.

We've just come off a cool spell for this time of year - three nights with lows in the upper 40s. Monday's high was only in the upper 60s (and felt cooler). We had a high in the low 70s yesterday, and are expecting around 75 for today's high.
We are on warming a bit now, with the next 10 days set to be right on normal temperatures for this time of year: highs around 80 and lows around 60, plus or minus a few degrees. After a big rain Friday night, we're looking at a dry spell for a while. That is also typical for this time of year.

It got to 68° today, and supposed to get up to 70°, but next week it is getting much colder - the reason I have to get those plants inside soon! They are taking about possible frost late in the week, but I think they are talking about the cooler areas over there. But I can't take chances, of course.

I did nothing outside today. Though the temp was ok, it was very windy - 20 mph sustained, and 35-40 mph gusts. It was supposed to rain more, but only .01", and nothing before midnight - I think there was more dew than rain! Tomorrow is supposed to get only to 59°, and windy again. Fortunately, not much I have to do out there yet.

First FREEZE of the season forecast for tonight. Well, it's gotta happen sooner or later, and it is almost November. Guess I'll go down to the garden today and see if there's anything in need of a final picking.

Forecast for 70F. Right now 60 and sunny. No frost in the 10 day, but has to be getting close. None of the green tomatoes even thinking about turning ( I don't do green when ripe). I need to check the garden journals to see the latest frost here. Average is mid-October I think. I will edit just for fun when I get around to it. Anybody else record these kinds of things?
Did the research. For my back yard since 2004 the earliest killing frost was September 19 in 2005. The latest was November 1 in both 2016 and 2021. Average for the nineteen years is October 12. No tomatoes seem to ripen after October 10 although one got picked today, October 22. There are still about a dozen greenies waiting for frost forecast. Year in review will be following soon, such as it is.

In my area frost can happen anytime between October 10th and October 18th, give and take a day. This year the first frost is predicted for October 29th. My tomato plants are fine and dandy, still green and still producing, but although good and way better than store bought, tomatoes don't taste as flavorful since night temperatures have dropped into the 40s. In a way, it's like growing "refrigerator tomatoes". Everything else is also happily growing, except for cucumbers. They were gone by August. Despite the lack of rain, the garden did well this year. This is what I picked today, which is really remarkable for October 22nd.

Today and the next 3 or 4 days are supposed to be in the low to mid 70's which is a nice change from the cold.

Winter is coming! High of 49F today, 40F tomorrow. Tomorrow night low of 31F, possible snow on Friday, low of 19F Friday night!!!! I have squash to get in today from my garden which has not yet had a hard freeze, also a couple of volunteer Bok Choi from plants gone to seed years ago, but keep germinating in one raised bed, this year amongst the corn there. Time to get the shade cloth off the greenhouse so the snow can slide off! The past few days have been so gloomy and chilly that I have avoided getting as much done as I should, so now I have only today left to get into overdrive. Typical!

It is supposed to get up to 74° today, and getting warmer every day until 81° Saturday. Monday night was coldest so far for me, at 40°, but nothing I checked yesterday appeared to be hit by frost. No rain at all in the forecast.

No frost yet here either but I don't have much left in the garden. I am still getting a few tomatoes but the peppers are done. I still have lots of swiss chard and beet greens.
Hubby likes fried green tomatoes so I picked a few of them for him. We were at our cabin 2 weeks ago and he decided to fry some tomatoes in cast iron over the camp fire. He had fun doing that and I have to admit that they were darn good. We will be doing that again this weekend.
I will also be planting my garlic this weekend.

It got to 84° in my back today, but 63° is the forecast high tomorrow, and 54° for Halloween! And later in the week, Wednesday night or Thursday night, 33° for a low. Which is why I harvested most of my peppers today - not much time left for them!

First freeze forecast for tonight, so I'll go out and get what I can today. Most I've already harvested, but things grow fast! Just yesterday I got 2 full sized green peppers, and I wasn't even looking for them.

Probably won't get a frost tonight, but it's kind of cold for the first of November - last night's low was around 40 and tonight's is expected to be 38, and then we warm up. The high today was around 60, but a strong north wind made it feel a good bit cooler.
We'll be back up to highs near 80 and lows in the upper 50s by the weekend, though.

Before the sun crested the ridge this morning, it was 19F🥶 with a heavy frost. That's cold! The forecast says it's going to get to 50F this afternoon. The sun is supposed to shine, with a gradual warm up, into the weekend. Pretty safe to say the garden is toast without even going to look, lol. Now it's time to clean it up. Ain't happening until it gets warmer lol.

It got down to 31° out back here, last night, yet the pepper plants don't look that bad. But I'm not trying to save anything, since I really don't need anymore peppers! It's only supposed to get to 50° today, and close to 60° tomorrow, and even higher than average (maybe 67°) Saturday. I still have cold weather crops, but I'll probably pull those peppers and other crops on this nice weekend.

It was about 69° today, about 10° above average, but tomorrow is forecast to be a little below - about 55° - then right back to around 70° on Thursday, then right back down! It's been doing this roller coaster all week, but finally it's going down for good, over the weekend. Maybe...
