Thanks for all the brainstorming regarding the lead. My understanding is that the lead comes from the pipes (both our own pipes and the pipes from the city) and the paint chipping over the years. We've got a Reverse Osmosis machine that cleans the culinary water for the house. I've got the soil pulled and bagged for a soil test. My next step is to get a local bank so that I can write a check to the soil testing place and mail it all in. Most of what I've read talks about lead being in the soil and then being ingested from dirty hands or unwashed produce. I haven't read much concern in regards to the lead in the water then resulting in lead in the produce itself. I don't know much about other heavy metals but it looks like the test I'm requesting will test for lead and aluminum.
