Thanks, TxDirtDog, I appreciate the kind words. I've got a new bed to try out this year, a huglekultur (mound style raised bed with all sorts of yard debris buried in the mound). I've been dumping boughs, brushy stuff, twigs, plant material, and kitchen scraps into a pile for the past year. I'm in the process of covering it with earth. Huglekulturs are supposed to be good for retaining moisture. We shall see!

Switching to current screenname - Dogwoman, I am looking forward to your reports on how the hugelkultur works for you. I have read some on it, and it is intriguing for this area also. Kinda worried about termites tho. Still more study required on my part.
W8in4dave, there just ain't no "lil ol" to ya girl. Welcome back!

Hey all. Over yonder I'm tsteven1, so when you see my new screenname, you'll know it's me. Ms. dogwoman, what a pleasant surprise. And I'm real glad to see everyone else. Red told me to bring a gun rack, but all I've got right now is my toolbox. My 'twist-o-flex' watchband broke yesterday. So I ran down to KMart and got a new one, and my ex inlaw and I sat down with hammer and tongs and we fixed my watch! Glad to be here. Tim

Thanks for the welcome daylilydude and Bluelacedredhead!
I had a small garden last year. It was something I did on a whim mostly. Some things worked out ok but I made a lot of mistakes. Too bad I didn't get on the forums then. So I'd still say I'm pretty new. Right now my kitchen is a makeshift greenhouse. I love how it smells. Oh and it's all veggies. I have a bunch of plants under lights, mostly tomatoes and peppers and I hope to plant my root veggies outside in a few weeks. I just started everything this last weekend so nothing has come up yet, except for the lettuce I started. It took a whole two days to get sprouts. Now I just need to figure out how big they can get in the seed tray before I transplant them. I'm in 5b zone...Ohio. I've been reading a lot on the net trying to figure out everything.
