They blamed her low pulse ox reading on the machine and sent her home? Crazy!
Glad to hear that the new hospital has been able to wean her off the Percocet. It's really hard to clear the bowels with narcotics in your system - they are very bad about causing constipation. Narcotics also cause you to take slower and shallower breaths, which is NOT good someone with a low blood oxygen level.

Hospital finally released my wife this afternoon, and she made it home inside safely and is resting comfortably. Official diagnosis was hypoxia(low oxygen levels in the body tissues). She will be on some vitamin B with iron tablets, Lasix(diuretic) and lactulose(constipation) to hopefully prevent a reoccurrence of the low oxygen levels. And she has stopped taking the Percoset pain pills and is getting by with an occasional Tylenol. Home care is supposed to stop by tomorrow to get her back in the system, so hopefully things will continue to progress well. I am hoping to get her to her orthopedic, leukemia and personal physician appointments next week without any setbacks. And we are both looking forward to a good nights sleep.

Glad to hear that she's home, finally. Best wishes, and positive thoughts for both of you, in these trying times. She's lucky to have you, to do all of this planning, and taking care of her. Take care of yourself, as well.

Conditions were very icy this morning, slid through a few intersections but got to the orthopedist in one piece. They took off the cast but left the stitches in for another 10 days, as part of the incision area was not coming together very well. Took new X-rays and we got to look at the staples and screws that are holding things together. They then rewrapped the foot and hopefully he can remove everything next Thursday. But it looks like another six weeks of non-weight bearing on that foot. Physical therapist came over this afternoon and worked with her on some hopping around using the walker. Oxygen levels were good, so that was one less thing to be concerned with. Also getting a referral with an occupational therapist to come over next week. We are staying in till Friday when we have to get out for some blood draws and appointment with her leukemia specialist. Hopefully all that has been going on for the past month hasn't affected her remission status.

Yes, it does. Especially the swelling - ouch! I hope the incision comes together better over the next week so she can get the stitches out next Thursday. I hope the swelling comes down soon, too.

pondgardener, Thinking of and Praying for you both. I'm glad they caught it, blood clots can be scary. These days the mere mention of surgery gives me anxiety.

Hope she is healing well, and that both of you can relax and be a little less stressed soon. That really does look like a painful foot!

We had to take an unexpected trip out to the cancer center today to get some blood draws for her appointment tomorrow. But it was a good opportunity to use the transport chair that I purchased so she could be moved inside and around the center without having to "hop" with a walker or having to kneel on the knee roller. So far everything is continuing to work out well as we haven't had any problems getting her into or out of the house. She does miss her daily shower but the transfer chair comes in handy so she can sit near the sink and do a sponge bath. Other than when she comes to the table for lunch and dinner, she is keeping the foot elevated. Still managing to stay off the pain pills and generally sleeping well. Homecare is working her to get around better using just the walker, in the event she had to exit the house on her own, say in case of a fire.

Yes, that is really encouraging. I hope that the worst is behind her and that her recovery goes smoothly from now on.
