Heh. That one rings true! Cats are not generally as good about recognizing language and watching human behavior as dogs. But they both know the words and phrases, "dinner," "food," "cat food," "chicken," and "feed the cats." And Lily runs to the back door every time I put my sunglasses on. If I also pick up my hat she gets really excited. Oddly neither of them seem to really understand, "No." However, they do understand what it means when one of us reaches for the squirt bottle. So we rarely have to actually use it.

When we were first married we used to take walks in the evening. After only knowing each other for a couple of months we took the time to talk and get to know each other better. I brought a cat into the relationship and whenever we said," how about a walk?", the cat would run to the door and wait for us. She would walk along with us the entire time. Being half siamese, she would talk to us but that is another story altogether.

Cats don't see humans as the center of their universe like dogs do, so they only react when they see a benefit to themselves. I'm pretty sure my cats each know their name, as well as the name of the other cat. But unless they are already bored with being outside, they won't come when called. If they are ready to come in anyway, they will come charging out of the woods and fly up the back stairs as if they were actually obeying me, but I know better. Luke is a talker, you can carry on a conversation with him though not sure we are talking about the same thing! Maizie is a complainer with a teeny little voice that reminds you of a whiny child repeating some demand over and over til she usually gets her way.

Siamese cats are notorious for "talking". Ours (mine) would actually say, "Eeeeeat" when she was hungry, "Ouuuut" when she had to go and "Paaaaaul" when she wanted to be held and petted. Far out? Yes but my cat just about creeped my new wife out until she got used to my first girlfriend. Fifty years late, the cat stories still come up in conversation every once in a while. Got the cat while still in college and she slept in my shoe for the first few weeks. Until we got a dog, I was a total cat person. Our first dog was a Collie/German Shepard farm dog and the cat mothered that dog like crazy...they were best of friends showing just how goofy the whole family was. Like the song, After fifty years I still grieve.

Hahaha, that's a good one, rdback. Hubby and I both had a good laugh over it.

Yep, that's Florida winter for you!
EDIT: Texas sometimes has all four seasons in one state, too. Sometimes in the same day, I've heard!
