Done picking punkins. Cooking the punkins and making 2 new beds for next year is a different story. Still got Dawgmeniums to pick this fall an chile peppers. If I find some good cabbage seedlings I might set them out. Waited too late to start my own.

I actually haven't tried them yet. Mom and Dad ate one of the PDCs and liked it but I'm going to try pickling some soon, bound to be some leftovers to just eat.

i ate a pdc last sunday.very fine delicate flesh.orange semisweet. it had flesh that reminded me more of a summer squash fine grained and smooth.deliicate after cooking. yet that fine soft hint of a nice winter punkin.kinda a light sweetpotato taste.it readily absorbed the flavor of the italian sausage i cooked it with.yet wasn't overwhelmed.

If you broke the pumpkins open horses might eat them. As expensive as horses are I'd only try it if the owners agree. I know sheep will eat pumpkins if they are broken open. Gulfie, we fed extra everythings(apples, squash, corn, greens, tomatoes - okay no onions) to the livestock and yes, I cut the squash into pieces. The horses still wouldn't eat it. The sheep, pigs, cattle and poultry enjoyed a well rounded diet in autumn.

I can visualize it now. Gulfie with a Tahitian crookneck in each hand, Reddie armed with two massive Cushaws, each running down I10 to meet up somewhere around Lafayette, LA both singing the Theme to Rocky at the top of their lungs! Garden on Boys!
