Srill struggling getting carrot to set seed. I broke down and ordered some from Shumway. This makes a tank of an OP carrot.

Carrot is a biennial. IE grows root the first year and sets umble flower the second. Needs to be isolated from other QAL (queens ann lace) family. Um and frankly NH might be the northern frontier for reliably getting carrot to overwinter.
With luck OH will be a kinder gentler place.
I grew Autumn King years ago and have a sifted bed to do grow outs in. if nothng else I'll have T-ball bats for grandson...

I aughta be planting a stubbier carrot in this here Ohioan clay. But I'll keep on double digging till soil is soft and deep as Autumn King grows long. Back in Cow-Hamster I used to grow what looked very much like an orange baseball bat.
But that was only after I sifted out the gravel and cobbles.
Which dirt is worse? Clay that can pull a combat boot off, or sandy soil that stone giants used as their litter-box?
I'm just lucky I guess.

Autumn King tastes surprisingly like a carrot. St Valery is a good un too. I'm a lot less 'on' for other-than-orange carrot. But thats just me.
AK is about the biggest of the 'caveman's club' winter storage carrot.
