Late planted garlic, is like planted in May. If you put your garlic to feild even when the ground is frozen, it'll come good. Allthough frozen ground planting is a pain in the tochis.

Good info to know! I was thinking of doing another batch, but thought maybe January would be too late for garlic to be planted normally in the Fall.

Seems (when I poke around) that roots grow first, tops don't really grow till spring.

Our garlic planting month is supposed to be October, but I have planted them this late and they are always fine.

My garlic has sprouted and is doing fine. Of course down here it will just grow and grow. Might get snow in March this year. Still in the high 60's.

It's 44F (6.7C) out and I just planted some garlic in the cottage garden near the foundation of my house. We'll see what happens.

I got silly and went back out with my digging fork. Ended up with 17 cloves of garlic planted today. Come on Spring!

I agree late planting is fine. There have been plenty of years when there is very little fall growth, and they catch up just fine. The critical thing is that the cloves are in good shape, and conditioned before planting, keeping them in the refrigerator somewhat moist, but not wet, cant hurt.

I noticed today some of that garlic I planted in February, 2012, is up. That area of my cottage garden didn't get as much attention last year. They were on their own.

The latest that a person may plant garlic is 31 December and the earliest is 1 January. Did the 31 December bit one time with Martin's and used a hatchet to chop holes in the ground. In the end, I don't think that they were a minute behind the fall-planted bed of the same variety.
