Someone get this idea out of my head. Last year I said I wouldn't do it again. I have been putting up ads for an egg and sweet corn raiser to partner with me for CSA and haven't found one. The next thing is an ad in the local paper. If that doesn't pan out I have arranged a plan to fit corn in but oh it was so hard to grow sans tractor last season! Corn is next to me every other year and will not be there in 2012 so I don't have that excuse. If my beds are 3.5 feet wide and almost 50 feet long how many rows and beds do you think is minimum for pollination? I don't want it all ready at once. I planned on 4 beds. Maybe I could do 2 sowings, and pollination will be fine, but I would love to do 3 or 4 sowings. If I narrow the path and make the beds 4 feet wide I could get 4 rows in there again (like 2010) and just space each stalk further apart in the row. Oh what a pain to weed!

Minnie, I mulch the stuffin' out of my beds, Can ya get enough yard waste? Robert Dewhurst sent me five pounds of Hickory Cane (a white flour) instead of the one pound I asked for. Pm me if you want some.

Just growing sweet corn. I have a solution to my problem. I am indeed growing four 3.5x48 beds of corn but I am putting black plastic down first and then using a jab seeder. I will soak the seed and jab in. Yes it will take longer than using an earthway seeder but no weeding later! The seeder isn't super cheap but I will use it for onion seedlings too and also jab through plastic. Just think of all the weeding I won't have to do!

here's hoping the labor you save equals the expence it creates.
