Well I bit the bullet and bought 3 bunches from Dixondale Farms for onions I hope they are as good as advertised.
Garlic I had a store bought bunch sending out shoots so I planted a few months ago they are 3 inches tall and going strong.
Happy Gardening to all.

sounds great, ordered onion seed last night, will start them in two weeks...Garlic...a tad worried about it, but it will be fine I think... It;s been really unseasonably warm here up till last week, temps in the 50's for days... typically, we are under FEET of snow... which is what we need for the garlic...a nice winter snow blanket...we'll know f the Thaw/Freeze/Thaw effected it any come April

our ground rarely if ever freezes below a few inches deep. But it has been very warm even for my part of texas standards. I was surprised about the garlic how fast it is growing and for me anytime now or going forward is the perfect time for planting onions.

Have you tried the Candy variety, they are most amazing. Make sure you sign up for the news letter . It's not spam but real gardening info every now and than. I just love that place. ;D My Candy's from last season next year I'm getting more. This was 1 bunch.

DD,
somewhere I got the impression that you are NE of Dallas - can't remember if that was here or another site. Anyways, there's a blog I follow occasionally, from a fella living near Daingerfield that raved about his candy onions a few years back. ( Just in case that would be useful to you in the future)
gixxerific - that's a beautiful sight - wish mine looked like that. Actually, I quit watering my onions last year - had to make some tough choices. Our total rainfall for the entire year was 12.2 inches with record breaking heat (broke another record just yesterday). Sorry to say, there'll be no onions here this year.

Basically due North about twenty five miles from dallas and slightly west. I think I am very close to the short day intermediate day line. I actually live about half way between Denton, TX and Dallas off 35E or Stemmons Frwy.
Thank you for the heads up about the blog.
