My garden is getting nearer to being fully planted. Today, I took some starts I grew over to my friend's place. Two Thai Long Green eggplants, 12 hot peppers and 14 tomatoes. We got them planted before dark.
Today, the baby rabbit squeezed into my garden, so I went next door and got the neighbor kid. He helped me herd the little bunny until the critter slipped through my fence. I fixed that spot.
On Friday, I saw a Robin get the first ripe Black Raspberry. He had that guilty look on his face. The berries are ripening really fast and I need to get pickin'.

Too much heat! Mine's done. Babying along my sweet peppers-of course the hot peppers are still pumping out, but it's so hot, the eggplant were suffering, too. Pulled everything except peppers & cucumbers.

first thing I noticed this morning is the lawn is crispy, there are a few brown leaves here and there on the lawn enough for me to notice, quite a few willow leaves among them. The air is heavy with heat this morning, sky is the brightest blue, not even a puff of a cloud to be seen. Several of the almost ripe and not quite so ripe tomatoes have a bad case of sun scorch,I haven't had this before, maybe I should look into a canopy of shade cloth for the future.Beans are producing well now ,second planting are just starting to produce.Cukes are the length of my index finger, still bug free so far ,did spot some crickets on the leaves but they are carnivores I think,am I right. Chocolate peppers are just starting to turn, they have taken their sweet time.Rounds of Hungary just keep coming,I forgot just how juicy they were, haven't grown them of late. Surprise surprise ,cherry peppers decided to fruit,I had given up on them, they must have flowered when I wasn't paying attention.Picking a good amount of squash, several baggies in the freezer already. Melons look wonderful but still no female flowers. Picked the last of the lettuce, way to hot for them now,I grew a mix of different types all together in a large container ,just picked them at young leave stage so nothing ever grew to a full plant. Lemon basil is over and done with, cilantro is bolting The bean herb I grew which is new to me was a disappointment, maybe it will be better dry but I'm not sure, herbs always taste better fresh to me. Summer savoury is struggling along, all the mints and lemon balm look fine . Canna lily's are so tall this year , amaryllis leaves are the same way.The wind is really picking up now, last thing I noticed was the bees on the clump of sunflowers, they really were hanging on,the wind was whirling the sunflower heads around like a spinning top.

Pulled everything except peppers & cucumbers. 104.5F at 2PM. I'm trying to recover the edges of the garden with the weed wacker. Maybe 30 minutes outside, then at least 15 minutes with something to drink inside. Good news is there won't be much in the way of toxins in the body as I'll have sweated them all out and then some! Half the maters have been pulled. More to go. I'll probably leave a few to baby through for fall, but haven't completely made up my mind yet. Peppers are needing more and more water, as are squash and melons. Blech! It's a might warm out there.

It was 100 at 4:30 this afternoon. I had to pull over behind one of my coworkers about that time, the rear tire on his blazer delaminated like it was a recap.

Yes-on the way home yesterday evening-about 4:30-5:00 my car temp said it was 104. Swam in the neighbor's pool late yesterday evening, and it was almost (almost) cooler out of the water than in! TX-I hear ya. It's too dang hot for even a young person to work outside-and all of our work is outside (sheet metal shop). I worry about the guys getting heat stroke!

Well, I thought it was hot over here, txdirtdog, gulfcoastguy & catgrass! I can brag about this, though: I was pregnant during the hottest summer ever, 99 - 101 degrees for weeks and no air conditioner, and moving from one apartment to another...can you beat that for suffering? ;D
It's hot & sunny here on the prairies, c. 85 degrees. I finally decided to try to remove a large clump of nettles in the garden. It was maybe 5 feet in diameter and had been there for years, getting larger all the time. I like nettles, they are nice to eat in the spring. I hate removing it but if somebody gets "burnt" on it they are going to look at me like a criminal.
To work with nettles you have to get dressed up from top to bottom thoroughly so I was more uncomfortable than ever, like a steam bath. And those roots just don't want to let go. I got most of it, though there's always little bits of root left and next thing you know a sweet little leaf is coming up!
Anyway, that is my story!

You win that one hands down. I think my sweet wife would have probably been beating me about the head and shoulders just on general purposes in those kind of conditions.

Today, I picked lots more Black Raspberries. This morning, I had a big rabbit in my Cottage Garden. I herded him around until he stood up and jumped over the entrance where I step over.
Spent a lot of time indoors from the heat. From 8.30p to 10.05p I carried water to plants and mixed up some potting mix in the wheelbarrow to plant more containers tomorrow.

Picked lots more Black Raspberries early in the day and late, as well. After 6.30p, I carried water for a long time. Ran the hose in the Hellstrip to keep the flowers going.
Potted up another 12 tomatoes in containers using the flashlight at the end. Wheelbarrowed most of those to the back yard. I'm almost done planting... Or not, hehe!

Picked enough lettuce for a couple salads. Watered the garden after dinner. We need some rain, getting pretty dry here. Need to get some mulch down.

Picked more Black Raspberries today. Early and late. I have six quarts in the freezer. We were hot again, so I took a big nap late in the afternoon. After suppertime, I got out and carried loads of water to my plants, per usual. I see the rabbit taste-tested one of the tomatoes I potted up yesterday. I stuck the tip back in the soil. I replaced one of my Dwarf Cosmos for the 2nd or 3rd time in the same place. Planted the three surviving Coneflowers I started from seed at Mom's in the nursery. Also, a couple of volunteer Coneflowers from town I planted at Mom's. After reading of the "bag trick" from LinFL, I started a couple Beogradska zucchini in the house. Thanks for the seed, Wizardica! Today, I planted them out in the back yard in the bag on the lawn. Sure to be a hit with the town's folk.

Sure to be a hit with the town's folk. Good luck with the zukes-in-a-bag, Stratcat! I bet they will do great. Because of your comment, I decided to post an update on how my bag melons have done, and what I have learned - the good, the bad, and the ugly - this year. I started a thread on it in the Gardening Styles forum so I didn't hijack this thread. Now, so I can say I have directly contributed to this thread, my little Meyer lemon in a pot is blooming. I just love the smell of citrus blossoms! Also, just one branch of my Owari Satsuma mandarin tree is blooming. I guess the three cool rainy days we had due to TS Debby confused it. I've never seen this happen before - it's very strange-looking, to have one branch way up at the top of a 15' tree blooming. It will be interesting to see if that branch sets any fruit, and it they have time to mature before the freezes this winter.

Thanks a lot, LinFL. As hard as I work at gardening, I sure have to have some fun! Today was the usual. Picked Black Raspberries. Carried loads of water to my plants. Sat in the shade. Planted a few more Tomatoes and an Eggplant in containers. Seen where the rabbit was eating on a couple Gloriosa Daisies and an Amaranth in the Hellstrip. Late in the day, I saw the rabbit in my Cottage Garden again and I shooed him out.

After the thunderstorm blew through this morning, I put stakes in my tomato containers on my back lawn and tied the plants up. The light rain in the second wave didn't bother me.
Late in the day, I got out picking Black Raspberries. I'm up to eight quarts in the freezer.
I made some potting mix for containers and planted eight more cherry tomatoes ending after dark. My work flashlight sure comes in handy.

Got some nice rain this morning so I won't have to water the garden. Got some mulch down before lunch. Plan on going out this evening when it cools down some and get more down. 67% humidity right now, too muggy for me. Not a big fan of hot weather.

Thursday, I carried lots of water and top-dressed my tomatoes in the ground. Picked Black Caps. I noticed a rabbit topped one of my peppers in a container, so I was out til after dark cobbling together a few lengths of chicken wire fencing. It worked.
Friday was the usual. Get out early to pick berries and water some plants. I'm up to 10 quarts of Black Raspberries in the freezer. Took a nap. Got back out after 7.30p to carry water and inspect plants.
Found cutworm damage on a tomato and applied diatomaceous earth on the soil around the stem. I dusted DE on my ornamental cabbages after looking for the worms.
Rain is very welcome...

Been putting down mulch. Noticed some blossoms on the cucumbers and found a few tiny cukes on one plant. Garden seems to be doing pretty well this year. Can't wait for some fresh green beans and zucchini.

Saturday was more of the same. Also, I spent hours putting in tomato stakes.
Sunday, the usual, plus tying tomatoes forever.
Monday, the Black Raspberries are slowing down. So far, I have 11 quarts in the freezer. Picked a few Sun Sugar tomatoes. Carried water. More tying of the tomatoes.

I'm in the thick of things, here. Getting around earlier in the day than last year. The heatwave last week sure got me going. This morning I did some watering. Picked Black Raspberries. Now 12 quarts in the freezer, same as last year. Getting ready to head back out for watering, weeding, feeding, tying, enjoying the flowers...

Trying to figure out how to tell if Yellow Doll watermelons are ready to pick. Had to hand water my community garden plot yesterday evening in 109 deg heat as the main timer seems to be on the fritz. Oh joy!

Picked a few more Black Raspberries up to, and including, Sunday. I have 12 1/2 qt. in the freezer. The birds are welcome to the remaining berries.
Been carrying loads of water to my plants. More tying up.
I went back out after the rain shower today and the heat and humidity just made me wilt. Didn't get much done. I had my headphones on listening to music and sat down in my chair under the cedars. Had a nice breeze on me and took a nap.

Between working on school buses and puttin up paneling and painting the weeds have taken over the garden, so yesterday I went to cleaning out the gardens! Had a bad thunderstorm come thru about a week ago and took out my puter so have to use my cellphone to even check in here!
