Got the soil sample results back and added 25 pounds of elemental sulphur and 30 pounds of Ammonium sulphate tot he rototiller garden. N was low, P and K were high and pH was at 7.7 which is down from 8.4. The sulphur and Ammonium sulphate will increase the N for next year and lower the pH even more for next year and the year after.
Now to ignore the garden until April but the planning has already begun. Seed orders will be going out in the next week or two.

A volunteer tomato has started setting. No idea what it is, but probably a cherry of some sort.

The halloween pumpkins are melting into the ground. The squirrels and birds have quite enjoyed their seeds and tasty substance. I will probably have pumpkin plant volunteers come up everywhere next spring. The squirrels have been drilling huge holes and planting peanuts from the neighbour as well as pumpkin seeds. It will give me something to do next year, LOL
It's raining lightly. I noticed a few garlic up. Time to mulch them before the snow flies.

Found some kohlrabi, a little smaller than walnuts.

aqua, I adore kohlrabis. They look like little Space Aliens. And, they are delicious mashed, baked or dipped! Yum.

I'm another lover of kohlrabi. Many of mine I use sliced, in stir fries and the like, as they keep their crunch, and have great flavor. I also make salads with them all of the time, until I run out, of course.
Today I finished covering the last 4 SIPs out there, as well as cleaning up some more. Not much else to do, except clean up leaves.

pepperhead212, bluelacedredhead,I grow it for my co-workers, a couple of them are vegetarians. It's just so easy to watch them grow and fun to share. But yes, they do look like alien heads, that's exactly what we call them, too! Can't imagine having to close the garden over winter. I hope no one minds if I still (try to) do a daily picture post. Please let me know if the photos are not showing up. Today- the peas are sprouting, lifting up and singing! I am so so so happy! Ive never grown peas before and am beside myself with excitement.

aqua, Can't see the pics, sorry You can see the kohlrabi, but you can't see the peas? that's frustrating because I followed the exact same steps for both pictures. Technology hates me.

daylilydude, I do them the same every time. (I am not technologically advanced so please forgive my explanation) I take the photos with my cell phone, and they automatically go to google photos. From there, I click on the pic, then click on "view image". Then I copy the address at the top, click on the little photo here, and insert the address. I remove the extra http// at the beginning. Are you sometimes able to see some photos, and then a day later, they're gone? I have pressed on the link tab here, linkand tried again.

Sometimes they pop up, most of the time not. When you use Google Photos you are sharing a link to the photo and not the actual photo. So when you put the link into the little photo box, all we see is a grey circle with a dash through it. I suggest using the link button (the little globe with the sheet of paper) to share a link to your photos, and make sure you have your photos set that "anyone with the link can view it". There's an issue with proboards and actually uploading pictures TO their boards- they have a limited amount of space available. So if you want to share your actual photos in threads, you'll want to upload your photos to a photo-sharing site such as flickr, imgur, or photobucket.

I still don't see most of your photos that you have posted here on the forum, either. (I tried disabling my script blocker, but that didn't help, either.)
If I go direct to your blog I can see the pictures you have posted there.

Laura_in_FL, that's probably the best idea, I see that we can link to a blog here. So I created Florida Winter Garden with a link, I hope that's ok. daylilydude, thank you for all the time trying to help me. I'm really looking forward to spring and maybe other folks can add in a lot of photos here that I can enjoy. Peace, ya'll - -

The greens are beautiful! I love garden pictures, no matter what they are. I just love folk's garden pictures.
Yesterday I picked nine rattlesnake pole beans. Gotta start somewhere, I guess.

aqua, Nothing wrong with starting small and building on it, especially while you are learning and deciding what it is you like or don't like and what grows well in your space. I've started some collections of favourites with just one or two seeds of something.

bluelacedredhead, hi and yes, it's a start. I know these beans well- they know me too, hahaha- these are saved seeds from an original package about ten years back. They are great producers, and I easily expect to get a laundry-basket-full of them from the four vines I have. It's just always so funny to go out there for the first picking and pick nine beans. Had hoped to try some new bush beans, and bought a package of "bush bean mix" from Bountiful Gardens, as they are going out of business. But they had already sold out. I'm completely unfamiliar with bush beans butt maybe Gold Rush might fare well in this area.

I worked on one of my no-dig beds today. It's approx. 16 X 3 feet in full sun. Raked a layer of not finished compost over it, then a thin-ish layer of screened city mulch, then watered it in. Then spread a thick layer of deep mulch around it for weed prevention - in case we get rain this winter.
I've got some sunflower seedlings I may plant in it to see what happens. It's usually frost free here.
<------ My good kitty, Devil Boy, kept me company, which was a treat.

Hi Gianna, How nice to see you over here. It's definitely not frost free here. We are expecting our first snow tonight. Thankfully I got my garden covered with it's straw mulch last week and my artichokes were already covered with straw but I covered that with a tarp just 3 days ago! Whew! Your kitty is absolutely beautiful!

Thanks, brownrexx. It's your fault for reminding me about this place. Last time I participated here, it was very quiet. Glad to see the activity level has greatly picked up - even in December! You mention snow. Isn't that the cold white stuff Santa brings? Yes, Devil Boy (not his real name)(He's in witness protection) is a beautiful cat. I got him at animal control when he was about a year old. His first family did not treat him well. When I got him he was a serious biter and scratcher. First cat I was ever afraid of. My arms were always shredded. Thankfully now he's grown into a real sweetie. It took a lot of patience.

Devil Boy is a beauty! He reminds me of my now deceased Baby Doo, official name was Delilah, but she was too sweet and dumb to be a Delilah, just the best tempered cat, not a mean bone in her body! More long haired than Devil Boy, but same pale color pattern. Afraid of everyone that wasn't a family member, but loved being carried around and on you like a tick if you sat down anywhere. I remember fixing meals one handed, because she wanted to stay draped hanging back over my left shoulder, so I had to support her butt with my left hand. We also had Samson at the same time, a long haired black tuxedo cat that was her exact opposite, the smartest cat we've ever had. Miss them both, now down to one other old cat.

Gianna , there are some southern gardeners here so maybe we can still talk gardening even when I am locked in the deep freeze here in the East.
No snow yet but the weather radar says that it is coming soon.
september , Gianna , we have 3 cats in the house and have started feeding a couple of ferals. We just can't stand to see starving animals and there is a neighbor in our area who lives on a small farm and just lets the cats reproduce. The good thing is that it has reduced the rabbit and vole damage to my garden and flower beds.
Hubby calls all of the ferals Ralph. We have Original Ralph, White Footed Ralph, and Yellow Ralph so far.
