Here is a question I need to get help with... if you add beneficial insects to your garden, what would stop the insects that feed on those insects from being drawn to your garden and causing more problems than what you started with!

I can't think of a beneficial insect that would harm the garden. Ladybugs, lacewings, preying mantis, predatory wasps, assassin bugs - all go after other bugs not plants that I'm aware of. You might run into beneficial bugs going after other beneficial bugs, but eventually the winners will go after the bad bugs.
Spiders could be an issue for the gardener as you know - glad you're past that ordeal! But I wouldn't know how to keep spiders out of a garden anyway.
