They were done I kept telling myself "it's too soon". So I broke down and harvested they came out pretty good this is Pescadaro Red. They are a smaller bulb variety also a Creole. This was 2 rows I have 4 more rows of a Cheznok Red and Music and a another row and half of Georgian Crystal. They can take a few more weeks in my opinion. Well here is the first go 'round. Not too bad. Here is the rest of my garlic waiting. Here is the Pescadaro Red Hanging in the Garage. I will get a fan on it very soon. The humididty is up here all of the sudden.

That a good one. I love that smell.
On that note I thought my garage smelled like garlic when I had these and the rest of my garlic drying in there. Boy was I wrong after I sliced up a bunch and put it in the dehydrator out there OH MY GOSH was it strong. There wasn't a vampire for hundreds of miles. ;D

I took the last of mine up about the fourth of July. This years generally drouthy weather made them a little smaller. But still servicable.

Mid to late Oct for me. That is if it's not still 105 degrees than. Mine never really had a hibernation period this winter they grew through it for the most part. Which is why they were so early. This was my second harvest the first one is already down and in a bucket on the table.

Gixx, that is just such a sweet little garlic garden, what with the picket fence and all.
I plant my garlic last week of September.

When will everyone be planting your garlic cloves? Rule of thumb to follow: Zone 4, begin 1 September. Add 15 days to each zone through 8. I'll let you figure it out! Martin

Martin, The last few years for various reasons I have planted later than the recommended time frame. And have still had good results. I always tell those who for whatever miss the prime window of what you said once. The last day you can plant this year is Dec 31st. I will try to plant mine the first half of October this year. I'm going to start removing corn stalks and working the area for the garlic and putting some good partially composted horse manure in deep furrows and then covering with a few inches of soil. Jay

Good to know that someone was given some good garlic advice and didn't forget it. The 15 day advance per zone date is when one can start. There is no stopping date and only depends upon how frozen the soil is. Planting in frozen holes is no problem but trying to find loose soil to cover the cloves can be a challenge!
