I just looked up robber flies...is this your beastie? www.cirrusimage.com/Flies_robber_Promachus_vertebratus.htmI've never seen any like this in my garden, but I have seen insects that looked like bumblebees, just sitting on a leaf. I thought that was weird behavior for a bumblebee, and wondered if they were sick. But according to this site, there are bumblebee-mimicking robber flies that do this. Cooool. I hope to see more, and I hope they eat stinkbugs!

I have never seen them before either which is why I am was freaking when this big 'ol bug showed up right next to me. I was freaking right so what did I do, whip out my phone and get closeups, that is what I do. The bess and wasps and whatnot and myself have an understanding. We live in harmony with each other.

I'm not sure I'm seeing a bug-are you talking about the brownish-red dark thing on the right? Looks like a cicada to me
