Here's a particularly striking picture of a Jewel Tone taken yesterday. I cut the fruit and it was "wow"!

What a beauty. I've never heard of Jewel Tone. Are they all heart-shaped or was it just this one? I love the bi-colour varieties.
P.S. I decided to look this up on the w.w. web. One result was Marianna's Seeds and this is what I found:
Jewel Tone Indeterminate. Potato leaf. 85 days. A very rare potato leaf version of the old time favorite, Big Rainbow. Discovered and stabilized by "Stratcat" from Michigan. We feel that this is larger than Big Rainbow and much more productive . Potato leafs add to it's flavor. Our friend, Stratcat, also brought to us the amazing GWR version of Amish Paste called Green Bombs. May throw an occasional regular leaf. * 10 seeds per packet.
Okay, how many years do you grow a variety before you can declare that it's well & truly stabilized?

Okay, how many years do you grow a variety before you can declare that it's well & truly stabilized? Assuming one saw a difference at an (assumed) F2 level - at least 6 years.

I finally grew mine out this fall: This is a very sweet and juicy tomato. The flesh is sweet and mild (low-acid) but there is a little bit of tanginess in the gel which complements it. I really recommend it for someone who likes a sweet tomato. The pictures don't quite do it justice...there is more red all through the center of the tomato, from blossom end to core. Some slices had a little more red than those in the picture, but I was too hungry to make more photos. The plant is PL, indeterminate, vigorous, and late. (I ate this fruit today, about 90 days from transplanting, and none of the others are ripe yet.) I will definitely be growing it again, but in the future I will grow it in the spring due to its lateness. You can't really tell from the photos, but this was a big fruit; it weighed right at one pound. Those slices are just the right size to cover a standard slice of sandwich bread. But if you use this one for tomato sandwiches, you'll need extra napkins. Did I mention that it's juicy? Thanks again for the seeds, stratcat !
