I need y'alls help with this... I want to do a "Your Top 10 Tips" for vegetables and such, but not sure how to go about it? I'm not sure I can explain this where it will make sense... so bear with me... I'd like to add a section for members to post their Top 10 Tips for different vegetables and fruit from seeding to harvesting, like from planting seeds to caring for the plant as it matures (best planting times, pot or in ground, watering needs, best fertilizer, bug and disease problems and what you do about them, and such) to harvesting (how big is it supposed to get, what color, best time to pick and such)! I'd want each member that wants to participate in this to have their own thread like say... Daylilydudes Top 10 Tips For collards, then I'd make my list of ten tips and say stratcat had something to add to that he could make his own thread... stratcats Top 10 Tips for collards and post his list, everyone has their own list even if it's the same vegetable... am I making any sense??? Then I need your suggestions on how I would add it to the forum... Make a new category that says Your Top 10 Tips, or add it to a board that's already here? If this goes right I want to add a Top 10 Tips for the different ways of gardening, (in ground, in pots, raised beds, hay bales) and such... Let's hear from y'all, I need suggestions on the best way you think this should be set up, any advice you could give would be wonderful. and appreciated... Thanks Y'all!!

It would be easier for me to find if it was a category all it's own. And would we even comment on someone elses top 10? Like if DLD Top 10 Tips for collards was posted. If I had a comment would I post there or would I need to start my own thread even if it wasn't 10 things. Capisce? Like: DLD Top 10 Tips for Collards 1..... 2..... 3.... 4. Plant at night 5.... 6.....10... And I wanted to say I don't plant at night I've always planted in daylight. Would I need to start my own thread or would I post to yours? I know what I mean to say

I think it depends on what Daylilydude is attempting to accomplish with his "Top 10 Tips" idea.
If he is looking for a list of "best practices" for each veggie and each type of gardening - an attempt at instruction - then a more organized approach would be appropriate. The suggested tips should be organized into categories. And we should comment, discuss, and come up with an agreed-on list of tips for each category. So the final tips lists should be useful to most people.
On the other hand, if DLD is just looking to get people to post their favorite tips based on their personal experience (the forum equivalent of gardeners chatting over the fence), then we could be a lot more relaxed. Tips could be organized either by category or by person. People could comment on others' tips, but we wouldn't need to reach agreement. Some tips would be useful, some might be joke tips, and some of them might even seem wrong to other folks (because we don't all do things the same way). The tips lists may or may not be useful, but it should be fun to see how other people do things.

organizing them by person also gets them organized by climate, that way there will not be to much conflicting advice

Hmmm... maybe I need to give this more thought... I was wanting it to be an area where our members and future members could post about their tips on how they grow vegetables from seed to table?

what about a category like we have for our gardens. On my Top Ten spot I'd put up what I grow like Okra and give the top ten things I do. then I'd put cucumbers and do the same and so on with whatever I grow from seed. People could comment on MY threads but not put how they grow theirs. If they want to post growing info they need to start their own thread. Like on my Okra Top Ten you could ask "Do you have good results since you plant your seeds no more than 1" deep?" But you couldn't say "I always plant mine 2 inches deep" I'm confusing myself.

Guess that would be difficult to keep under control. You'd always have to be checking that we were doing it correctly.
