So far this gardening season, which has been all of about 3 weeks, I have carpal tunnel in both wrists ( 2 months so far) to include my fingers all the way up to my shoulders severely hindering my planting. Also, as of four days ago, I developed water on the knee and can't bend my right knee. I've got 60+ tomatoes to plant plus all the other veggies and flowers and I'm having a terrible time.
Not supposed to be like this at my age. ;(
Things can't get much worse, and it can only get better ( hopefully!!!!) from here.
V.

Hi, V.
Sorry to hear about your carpal tunnel problems, and now, your knee. Is there anyone that can help you get your gardens planted? Maybe someone from a group from church? A local Master Gardener that would volunteer to help? A garden club?
If I lived close, I'd volunteer.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope you recover soon!
I think Strat has a great idea, asking around to see if someone can help you get the garden planted.

Or someone working on his boys out badge or looking for an eagles out project?

With a lot of trial and error, I learned if I bend sideways on my good knee, I can keep my bad knee straight so I'm bent over just enough to get the job done. I keep a shovel nearby that I can grab to help pull myself up. My tomatoes aren't planted as deep as I like, but at least I've got them planted.---most of them. Thanks guys for all the prayers and thoughts.

How are things? Have you tried any treatments? Did I mention that my husband had carpal tunnel in both wrists and had 3 treatments of acupuncture and he's been 12 years without pain?

I've been so busy this summer I haven't had a chance to visit this forum. My tomatoes sucked this year. What a disappointment! They started out beautifully and I was really looking forward to a huge harvest. About 3 weeks ago, things took a turn for the worst. All the leaves started turning brown and the stems yellow and brown. The tomatoes were grown, but stayed green for a long time. About half of them are still green. The ones that did ripen were not the best quality. Thanks everyone for asking about me. My knee got better after a month and I was back to my normal self. V.

I am sorry that your tomato season was disappointing, but I am really happy that the knee is better. I hope next year is a better tomato year, too.

I might shop around for a walker you can sit on, or a garden cart (or waggon) you can sit on. Ask-snoop around at your local *society for an orphan closet.
*Society: if your bitten by arthritis, arthritis society. For me cause I'm bit my MS, its the state chapter of MS society. They often have a closet fulla durable medical equipment, just gathering dust. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

virraszto, I feel for you. My balance isn't very good at times so I had my DH make me a steadying thingy, a D-handle replacement for a spade and a short piece of rebar shoved in the end. Great for getting up and down or balancing myself in amongst my perennials, haven't stepped on one since I've started using it. He did sharpen the end of the rebar a bit but I don't think it's necessary. Lee Valley sells kneelers like this one www.leevalley.com/en/garden/page.aspx?cat=2,44766,53926&p=66385 I have the one you can turn over to sit on. Annette
