Here are the varieties, with the first three being my usual favorites, the other 8 being new varieties for this year (Petch Siam may be another I have grown in the past - Kermit - with a different name). * indicates the varieties in the spoons. OLD: Hari* Ichiban Neon NEW: Canna Listada di Gandia* Lunga Nera di Chiocci Negra Lisa Petch Siam Pusa Indian Purple round Round Greek Black* Viserba* Obviously, I am going to be overrun with eggplant this season, assuming the new ones do very much! LOL I soaked my seeds 24 hrs in a KNO3 solution, as I do for my pepper seeds, and today I started them, doing 4 types (the ones I had the most seeds for) using the spoon in zip-loc method. I am also starting some of those in the normal starting medium, and I'll see if the spoon method speeds things up or not. I set the spoons on one side of the covered tray, to keep them warm, since I didn't use the entire tray for pots, so they should stay as warm as the soil.

I only grow two eggplants per season because I am the only one who really likes it. (DH will eat a little eggplant from time to time; the kids flat out refuse to try it.) For this year, I am growing: Hari F1* Malaysian Dark Red The Hari I grew last year. Malaysian Dark Red is new to me. Both seedlings are outside hardening off and are just about ready for transplanting now. The blasted squirrels keep digging around the Hari plant in its large cell. I'm not sure why they have singled out that particular plant for torment. I guess I need to get the critter repellent out before they kill it. Thanks again to Pepperhead212 for the seeds for both.

Two kinds here. One is a huge black "egg" and quite prolific. Packet came from Manchuria and all in Chinese so name is unknown to me! Second is a long Turkish variety, Aydin Siyahi. Haven't grown that one before but very popular in its homeland.

I have sprouts! In just under 36 hours the Listada di Gandia has 4 of 6 seeds sprouted. Now I'll find out if this speeds things up, since they still have to go in the pot and come up. I'll also leave some to form leaves, and transplant those sprouts, as others have done, and see if either seems better.

I am growing two Thai Long Green eggplants this year. Any and all fruit will be given to my son and his wife. They love eggplant and I haven't learned to like it in any form.

Mine haven't germinated well, so I've ordered more Rosa Bianca and Ping Tung Long. I'm anxious to grow a big crop this year.

Everything except the Pusa Indian, Lunga Nera, and Round Greek have germinated, with more than one seedling in most pots. If those don't germinate I'll have to use some of the extra seedlings in those pots. It really hasn't been long - only 6 days - so I'll wait a while longer.

The Round Greek finally showed a sprout in the spoon, so I should see those in the pot soon. Amazingly, I got 100% germination from those 2012 Hari seeds I used! Here is a photo of the seedlings, so far:
