and a question for stratcat, or anyone that may have seen this on other peppers. I have had the only one of those Purple Fire plants I started from the seeds you sent me get bumps all over the undersides of the leaves, which are also curling, and not another plant in all of the rest of them shows a hint of this. I have never seen this, and I took one leaf off, and looked at it under a 30x magnifier, and there doesn't seem to be hint that it is an insect, or eggs, just "pimples", that popped when I pressed on them. Have you ever had this happen, on these or other peppers? Here are a couple of photos:

Hi, pepperhead212. Good grief, I've not seen that before! I'll put my feelers out. Here's a picture from 13 days ago. Does the plant look like the pepper in the middle? Purple cotyledons and purple on the margins of the true leaves?

Weird! Can't say I've ever seen that before either - on Purple Fire or any other pepper plant. (course you made me go closely inspect 100+ of this season's seedlings also!) Does it seem to be spreading to the newer leaves or only on those older leaves? I would not immediately think of insect, disease, or nutrition problem if that is the only seedling showing signs. A systemic imbalance within that particular plant maybe? Just don't know, so I'm no help at all!

stratcat, Yes, that's what it looks like, with the true leaves getting greener as it got larger, and was doing well, until I noticed this. I'm glad you didn't get it! It seems the 4 oldest true leaves are the only ones like this; the smaller, new leaves look fine. Hopefully, it was just a reaction to the watering a couple hours before, but, as I said, none of the other peppers have this, and I have never seen it before, in peppers or other plants. I'll keep you posted.

I have seen the bumpy undersides on the leaves of tomato and pepper seedlings before (more often on tomato seedlings), but I have not seen the leaves curl like that. If it were not for the curling, I would say not to worry - it's a water imbalance and the plant will grow out of it. But with the curling, I am not sure if it is the same thing.
I would suggest watchful waiting, to see if it spreads.

Thanks for chiming in, timothyt. Maybe an imbalance of the roots not being able to support that many leaves right now? kctomato wrote about that years ago pertaining to tomato plants with some funny leaves. I forgot about that one. My fingers are crossed-good luck!

Thanks for the input. Hopefully it is a freak occurance in just the one plant. I am watching all of the others closely, but no sign yet, fortunately.

Hey, pepperhead212! How did your Purple Fire pepper turn out? My peppers looked great yesterday and I watered them. Today, I see a Purple Fire, Sweet Chocolate and Lipstick pepper with leaf curl and even some bubbles. Sheesh!

It is growing like crazy, but still has that whatever it is forming on the leaves! Somebody on another forum had a similar problem with Hungarian wax, and others chimed in, saying that it might be over-fertilizing, overwatering, or something causing a water imbalance. I took this one and basically flushed it, first with water, then something used in hydroponics - sugar water! LOL I noticed this on something my friend gave me as a free sample way back - sucrose was the active ingredient in a flush. Not something I needed in hydro, but, who knows, it might work here.
Still no sign of this on any other plant.

If that plant is growing like crazy and none of the other plants are showing the same symptoms, I wonder whether you actually need to do anything about it. Seems like a physiological condition that is not really harming the plant. It just looks bad.
