In 2004 I grew Aunt Ruby's German Green from seeds purchased form Sand Hill Preservation. In his catalog it is stated that while ARGG should be a beefsteak sized, not all his seeds produce large tomatoes. I did get the small. salad sized fruits. I did try again two years later from traded seeds and got the large fruit. Then again a year later I grew Cherokee Green. After three tries I sent all the seeds I had to a friend who thought GWR tomatoes were the best thing he had ever tasted.
I know lots of folks love the green when ripes; I guess I am not so eclectic in my tomato taste. Don't like them and won't grow them.

Ciao all-
I've also had difficulty getting the "real deal" with ARGG. The first year I grew it, 2005, it was fantastic - very large beefsteak with that sweet/tangy flavour that seed catalogues write about. We absolutely loved them on burgers and BLTs. The next time I grew it, same seed source, it was a mediocre-tasting red beefsteak. I changed the source and again got the red beefsteak. Sadly, I haven't had that same tomato since 2005 and I do miss it. Cherokee Green was a big disappointment and Green Giant is just way too late for my climate.
