DLD I've never grown big beef. Oblate tomato (that neeto beefsteak shape) comes in many sizes. A cute pink smaller fruited example (for me) is Tibet Appel. With Olena's Ukrainian being one of the bigger ones.
This is the grist of my particular food-of-the-gods sammich. No summer is complete without a tomato sammich made of a single crust to crust slice beefsteak tomato.

Really tasty, wonderful tomato. The plant needs to be caged and supported a lot, it will break under the weight of the fruits otherwise.

I grow big beef because it is a dependable producer and tastes pretty good.

I have had Big Beef beat out many heirloom varieties in blind taste tests (I knew the varieties, but nobody else did!), coming in on top a few of the seasons, and 2nd or 3rd other seasons. Production is very good, and it is somewhat heat resistant, producing after others have dropped their blossoms, but eventually it would stop, in the high 90s. Better than other hybrid beefs I have tried, for sure.

I have 2 Big Beef still producing and flowering. I can't believe it, it's January. Love the flavor of this tomato and such a good producer, nothing seems to bother it. But then I have 3 new eggplants on my plant. By this time my garden is usually cleared out and waiting until March to replant. It's weird weather and unusually warm. I can't complain, unless we don't get rain this winter.

I have 4 on my sink getting nice and red. I am very jealous. All that I have available are those cardboard ones at the store. I grow Big Beef every year. We really like them and they are a reliable producer for me. Isn't that the mater Lisaann always brags on? Yes, she's the one who gave me the idea originally and she was right. It's a good one.
