For this week, let's talk about Rebel Yell, since we have already talked about one of its parents, Stump of the World. I'm pretty sure that at least a couple of you have grown this one, so let's hear how it did for you.

2015 was my first experience with Rebel Yell. The seeds were a gift from a tomato grower who stabilized Rebel Yell. Plant out date was May10 and first fruit ripe on Aug. 6. Production was fairly light with nineteen tomatoes harvested at just over 9 ounces average weight; the largest was 15 ounces. No diseases on the plant at frost. Appearance was much like one of it's parents Stump of the World. The other parent, Bear Claw, is said to be sweeter than Stump. Both parents solid, meaty interiors and RY matches this. Flavor was very good with a little more sweetness than Stump. I am growing Bear Claw for the first time this year, it is reported that Bear Claw is a sweeter tomato.

I hesitate to post a review after only growing one plant in 2014; my only comment is that this one matured late in the season here.

For me, Rebel Yell has always been midseason, but then I live in an area where spring is brief and fleeting before summer sets in. I've heard comments in other forums suggesting that this variety may be better adapted to the South.
I have heard varying descriptions of its productivity - it seems to vary a lot based on conditions. For me it has always had fair to moderate production.
However, the taste blows away all other tomatoes that I have ever eaten. The flavor is complex, both sweet and tangy but not at the same time - the flavor changes as you eat it. It has a delicious, lingering aftertaste. This is THE tomato for your BLT or just to enjoy straight.
