Was at the landfill yesterday and while unloading I noticed a 1 and a half gallon tank sprayer laying there so I ask about it and the operator of the landfill said get it if you want it, so I picked it up and brought it back to the bus shop and added some water knowing that it wasn't going to work... but low and behold it sprayed... just had to clean the brass tip out a bit and it had a great fine mist spray, so my question is... I have no way of knowing what was in this tank and want to use it for insecticide in the garden, how would you clean this?

What is it made of? Plastic? Sorry for not stating that in my first post Laura_in_FL , yes it's a plastic older model with a brass wand, it's a "Better homes and Gardens" 1.5 gallon pump sprayer. I know I could pick one up at most box stores or garden centers real cheap... but who doesn't like free.

Maybe put some chlorine bleach in the container, as this may change the chemistry of herbicides or insecticides so that you could rinse it out, then put some de-chlor in it to get the chlorine out.

Thanks pepperhead212, That is what I put in yesterday, but was unsure if that would be enough to get all the unknown out of it.

In addition to what pepperhead212 said, I'd rinse the heck out of it, and then let it dry in the sun. Chlorine + de-chlor + dilution + sunlight will get rid of most things.
