I have roses, 5, own root ,old fashioned bushes.Lady Jane Gray is my favourite, lots of soft pink petals ,guess Betty Harkness would come in second, not so many petals but really pretty soft tangerine colouring. Theres other rose bushes here, previous owner put in ,they are own root and I guess have been here a long time, root system was huge, one bush took forever to dig up and move.I wouldn't have moved them normally but they were sitting right where I was about to put a fence in. I plant 4 o clocks near my rose bushes, they really do keep the beetles away, also white geraniums help out in insect control. The only problem I have yearly is black spot, every year with out fail, this year was really bad, just to much rain early in the season, then in early fall the ground drys up some what and the roses leaf up and look glorious, pity they cant do that during the summer months.

I have a couple small rose bushes, one is called pinata....very pretty.
The other one, cant remember the name, but it was the one that dies early in the summer, not sure what happened or why.

I don't like to grow roses. I have a couple of the mini ones, but no full sized and no multiflora. The big ones bite and the multiflora are a non native invasive species here that grow wild aand kill off native plants, that wildlife need for food and shelter.

I grow over 150 roses, all types. Rugosas, shrub, tea, hybrid tea, hybrid perpetual, gallicas, large climbers, old garden roses, you name it, I probably have it unless it is a zone 7 or above.

I used to have a whole bunch of rose bushes. Now, I only have one old one left. I like them a lot, but in my part of TX water is often in short supply, not to mention the amount of time you have to spend maintaining them. I traded in the rosebushes for succulents, and life's much easier now. Maybe when I retire I'll get back into roses, but that's a few years down the road.

I have a 'blaze' climber that I have to lay down and cover for the winter every year. I have a rugosa that is violet. It's an old hand me down. Been in the family for about 100 years. Almost lost it to beetles last year! I have several little common pink rugosas that I grow for the hips. Rose hips have more vit C than oranges! I want to make some rose hip wine this year. I make rose petal wine last year and am drinking the last bottle of it now :-( Very good!
