My question is can you eat the things I really don’t care for growing things you cant eat.
I assume you can or they would certainly put poisonous on the label.
What’s the difference between the two?

We have a Black Pearl pepper plant that is about four years old. It is very large and full of shiny black, small peppers. We bring it in for the winter and back out in spring. I have tried one pepper and I don't think the scoville scale goes high enough to rate the heat. I have not seen a warning on either seeds or plants, so ornamentals must be edible but dangerous. Ours is more like a shrub than a pepper plant.

I grow peppers in my front flower bed every year, and all are edible. Some varieties have a bitter taste when unripe, but can at least they can be used ripened and dried. I have a variety I grow every year - superchili - which starts ripening in early July, and is ornamental as soon as it is getting red peppers on it the rest of the summer. I also grow orange peppers, and purples (which ripen red) - a new variety this season that I have is Buena Mulata. I'll find out if it tastes OK.

As far as I know all ornamental peppers are edible, but not all of them are tasty. Some of them are bitter or otherwise bad-flavored. And most are quite hot.
