Never started them inside before but do I need to 'pot up' the seedlings? They're getting pretty lanky and don't plan on putting them in the ground for a few weeks still. Growing a few different colors for a showy bed this summer.
Now, I have them started in cell packs with multiple seeds in each cell. If I don't pot up, should I just have one seedling per cell? or two?

Zinnias grow well enough when planted directly to the final location. The information I have seen says zinnias do not do well as a transplant and often do not thrive when grown indoors from seed and then re-potted. They are fast growing so that is the reason yours are getting leggy. Get them outside as soon as you can. I imagine Mississippi is warm enough now.

Hope you're growing Benary's Giant. They are the best. Huge plants - colourful, healthy, problem-free. Countless blossoms. Of course I have to start them indoors.

If I don't pot up, should I just have one seedling per cell? or two? What did you end up doing? Those cell packs are too small to mess with, I start seeds in three and five gallon nursery pots. Zinnias are very easy to transplant. I dump the container and separate the plants and repot into individual gallon nursery pots, just like tomatoes. Nothing to it.
