In my area at least, weeds are native plants that have adapted over thousands or even hundreds of thousands of years to the growing conditions. And then I bring in these newcomers into my garden and I can compare weed growth to general growing conditions? I don't think so. It's a fight to make garden plants grow where weeds do well. All I do is make the situation easier for the weeds.

A topic of interest to me. I have a book titled "Weeds and What They Tell" by Ehrenfried E. Pfeiffer. It is a bit more detailed than "this weed indicates that". The most helpful sentence in this book is, "It is the tendency of certain weeds to appear and disappear which gives us the best lead in judging soils."Nevertheless, I found the link from D.L.D. to be quite helpful. To my mind, there are certain weeds (i.e. unwanted plants) that will grow virtually anywhere. I seem to have some of these.
