Ok, try and convince me they are beneficial to my garden, why would I want a critter in my garden that makes me run all over and hurt myself when I see it?

Your reaction aside, do spiders eat enough bad bugs to pay their rent (as it were)? If not that do they eat enough good bugs to make eradicating them worth your while?
My guess, speaking just for myself is; I doubt if I know, in my own garden.
As a second issue, the revulsion *ick*, thing. I've had gardeners attempt to tell me that 'any' bug is a bad bug. Likewise with snakes etc.
I wish I had a gentle or compasionate way to tell ya, that you gotta let the *ick* go, but you've got to let it settle down or you'll talk yourself out of the garden.
Its a bug. If you are unhappy with it, tell it to "get to work". An' to "stop slacking off". I expect the bug will take the direction as well as, or better than the kids will.
