Do you think eggplants produce better in a container? If so is there a favorite that you think does best? Pics would be great!

The container might make it easier to spray for the flea beetles. Eggplant is the best trap crop for them here, they prefer it.

I think everything grows better in the ground. But that may just be due to my inability to keep a pot watered.

My eggplant actually grows better in the 5 gal bucket, but, as noted above, watering can be a problem. I have a drip line hooked up to it, which is how it stays watered. And if you look at some of the other photos by that one, they started out with some chewed up leaves, from those flea beetles! Then I sprayed them with the surround, which does a fantastic job of stopping those critters from going on the leaves. And being up in the pot makes them easier to spray under the leaves. The one problem with growing in the pot is that the pot can blow over easily. This season I am going to have to tackle this by staking it, somehow. I just realized this was a 4 gal bucket. Last year they were in 5 gal. Still did well in the 4 gal.!

Ciao all-
My big Italian types like Rosa Bianca and Casper grow to about 4 ft and bear heavily. I think some production is lost when eggplants are container-grown, probably because it's more difficult to get a steady water supply into them.
I think perhaps some of the shorter varieties like Fairytale F1 and Little Fingers might do better in containers. Also, some of the smaller-fruited Asian ones might do ok. I'll be growing 3 small Asian eggplants in containers this year, for lack of additional in-ground growing space: Kermit Oblong, Lao Purple, and Thai White Egg.
I stake my eggplants, whether in-ground or in containers. The fruit can get quite heavy and cause the plants to bend over. I use zipties for securing them to rubberized 4 ft metal stakes.

All of my eggplants are container grown - 5 gal capacity growbags. Based on experience, It all depends in the soil and what you feed..
Japanese eggplants (esp Chou Naga) do really well here compared to their italian counterparts even better than the local available varieties.
Listada de Gandia is my most productive western eggplant.
White egg is my ornamental (but edible) eggplant.
