Dadgumit, I know we had a thread, but I can't locate it.
I like growing cherry tomatoes. I just do.
Black Cherry, Sun Gold, Porter. I like them all. Well, most all. There was one I don't think I would grow again.
more than once, I've considered growing nothing but cherry.
Several years ago, Ted Maiden gave me a couple and I found them both to be real good.
This is how Ted described Mini Gold and Sibirskiy Skorospelyi
Mini Gold is a great yellow/gold cherry. The plant will be small (less than 3 feet) and this baby will fill up in a hurry. I grew it in a 5 gal bucket. It is determinate and while very early, will go down for the count at mid to mid-late season.
THE FOLLOWING ISN't A CHERRY, but IT's a GOOD MATER. My fingers and brain are whipping up on me tonight.
Sibirskiy Skorospelyi is compact, semi-determinate, and Regular-leafed. It will load up early with 3-7 oz Red fruit that are slightly flattened globes. I used it a lot last year for canning and for fresh salsa.

paquebot, My mistake. I didn't mean to include it on the Cherry thread. I'm getting old and my thoughts and fingers aren't working together tonight. It's still a good mater. Let me see if I can adjust my thread a tway little bits.

Black Cherry, Fox cherry, Sungold, and Black Vernissage have been my favorites so far. Matt's Wild Cherry and Isis have been disappointments.

mgulfcoastguy, I just so happen to have some Fox Cherry seeds. I've also been racking my brain trying to remember what Ruby Pearl tasted like. I saved a bunch of seeds of it.

Fox Cherry is a fairly large cherry tomato that tastes like a large ripe red tomato. I don't know Ruby Pearl but then I only plant 1 cherry tomato plant a year.

The cherry that I have grown for the longest time is sunsugar, so that would be my favorite. However, many, if not most, of the cherries I have grown, I've had to drop after really hot summers, so these probably wouldn't be good for your area, hairymooseknuckles. I still grow Green Tiger (not really a cherry), and Sunrise and Purple Bumblebee are two more artisans that grow very well, and have great flavor, but are not heat resistant. In good years, they are some of my favorites, and I could pick them with just a hint of ripening, and they ripen well, keeping several days at room temp. Some, such as black cherry, must be picked when ripe, and used quickly, otherwise, they begin developing spots, and rot quickly. Last season I got another new (to me) cherry - hybrid Sweet Treats, ~1-1 1/4" - that did great - very little splitting in those heavy rains last year, and incredible production, with great flavor, but not as sweet as some of the supersweets, so it's great in salads. This year I'm growing Porter again - a large, 1 1/2" cherry tomato, which is heat resistant, and I originally got seeds for from Laura_in_FL, so it grew well down there. I'm also not a fan of Isis candy or Matt's Wild cherry.

For past 10 years or so, I've grown between 8 and 12 cherry or patio types. Only found a few that I didn't like until the past couple years. Anything with blue in it has not been an annual favorite. Absolute all-time dog was Brown Cherry which others claim is great. My best ever was Tomadose des Comores which others dislike. Sweet Charon was the best last year and almost a gallon were picked off 2 plants to add to the big spaghetti sauce batch. Close behind was Grappoli d'Inverno. None of the recent Bumbleebee series have impressed me.

I would like to try a red cherry tomato that is not super sweet. I will be growing Sun sugar as well as black cherry and I would like a red one that is more acidic than sweet. Any suggestions?

My wife is the cherry tomato eater and she say to tell you she has liked the Ambrosia Red and Pink and a new one we tried last year, Pearly Pink. PP was a little larger than a cherry but smaller than a salad size. It went into salads cut into halves or quarters. The Ambrosias for salads and eating solo. The only cherry I have ever liked is Black Cherry. Fox Cherry and Hawaiian Cherry were winners for my wife in years past.
