Here'a a weird one for you, I was doing a grow out of a unnamed bean. One of the beans produced over a 100 pods on a 12'+vine, not one of the small pods had a single seed in it, as the pods matured you could see the bumps in the pods where the seeds should have been but on opening the dried pods not a single bean. A real head scratcher. Has this happened to anyone else? Annette

No, that's very strange.

Maybe a sterile hybrid? Or maybe they will eventually get seeds, in later beans.
A friend once had a volunteer tomato show up, which he let grow. The thing got over 4' tall, with countless flowers on it, but not a single fruit! I assumed that it was a sterile F2, as his tomatoes were always the store bought plants.
Last season I had some of the very early Habanadas with no seeds. No idea how that happened, but I've also gotten red bell peppers with no seeds, so maybe it happens more often than we think!

No seed from any of the pods, all pods were left to dry on the vine. Something I have never seen before.

Weird. It was a sterile hybrid, I guess.
Did you eat any of the pods? Hopefully they were at least good to eat.

Laura_in_FL, I didn't even try, I was growing them for seed for someone else. The young pods were quite small and by the feel of them I think they would have been quite fibrous.

I don't know if this has any bearing on the problem but I was just reading that lima beans can form pods with no seeds if they are grown with excess nitrogen.

Wasn't too much nitrogen, they only had a bit of compost in the trench before planting.
