I made a new batch for rub for the turkey that I'm cooking Friday.
Mickey's Coffee Rub
1/4 cup of salt 1/2 cup of brown sugar 1/2 cup pur Ancho Chile powder(the ground up ancho Chile pepper with no extra ingredients) 1/2 cup expresso(dark roast) coffee ground fine 1/4 cup garlic powder 1/4 cup fresh ground black pepper(ground from black peppercorns, fresh makes a difference)
A cheap coffee grinder makes making this easy. The Ancho Chili powder can be ordered through Amazon though the people out west can buy it at HEB.
Good with most any type of meat other than fish. Great with turkey, can even be used with hamburger.

I stole the wife's coffee grinder several years ago to use for fly tying. You should have seen all the great dubbing I made. I didn't think she would even notice it being gone, but one day I was at my fly trying desk and was using the grinder. She came in to see what the noise was and asked "what are you doing?" Rut Roh, I had been caught. I had piles and piles of pretty yarn dubbing and HER coffee grinder.
I better not show her this recipe or I will be reminded of what happened to our grinder.

They are as cheap as $19.99 nowadays. She didn’t start grinding coffee with it again did she?

As an update to this, Mickey said that he uses instant expresso rather than grinding beans. Grinding beans works for me though.

I sent this recipe to my son just now. He is the keeper of the Egg now that we are apartment dwellers and he LOVES it! Uses it almost every night.
