Last year, guruofgardens (Jane) sent me some walking onions and grape hyacinths. I have grape hyacinth that me and wife bought many years ago from Walmart, so I put the ones Jane sent to me along a trail that leads to my pond so I can enjoy them of my daily stroll. She sent me a bunch and they are emerging everywhere!!!!! They are going to be so pretty!

Oh boy, hairymooseknuckles. You are going to be blessed with soooo many grape hyacinths along the path. So glad they are beginning to sprout.

I like grape hyacinths and have a few. They multiply quickly and bloom early here.

Wow is my first reply! What a beautiful carpet of grape hyacinths, especially in February. Enjoy them for many, many years. I might should have separated them a little bit better. I recon once they finish blooming, Me & Ma will start relocating them. The trail is about 30 yards or so and leads to my fish pond. Hopefully one one of the days, I'll have them on both sides of the trail all the way to the tank. wouldnt that be sweet?

30 yards of a path to your pond. I'd love to see pictures when flowers are in bloom. It sounds so pretty.
Bumblebees will be out soon. They love our grape hyacinths. Maybe that's why we still have so many! The hyacinths are like the Energizer bunny - they never quit!

guruofgardens, I have an update on the onions. Looks like we coulda done a better job of separating, don't it? They are easier for me to see like this though. YAY!!!! Thank you so much!

hairymooseknuckles,I am so glad they sprouted well for you. Kind of like other bulbs (grape hyacinths are included in this), they will grow and divide, grow and divide, etc. making lots and lots of bulbs until you finally dig them up to transplant. The Egyptian onions can get to be 3' tall with sooooo many bulbs on top. You may be surprised how many baby bulbs you'll get IF you just ignore them. Time to start your own Egyptian onion business!!
