My in-laws had a wooded side lot with mostly pines. Nearly all of them broke off in the storm, and they had a tree company and clear out the broken trees. Now that lot is ugly, with stumps and roots (they didn't have the stumps pulled or ground) sticking out of bare dirt, with just a couple of very young trees that didn't break. My in-laws intend to let the lot re-grow into woods, but that will take years. In the meantime it's an eyesore. I know my MIL finds its appearance depressing.
I was thinking of seeding wildflowers there as a little present. Eventually trees will grow and shade out the wildflowers, but in the meantime wildflowers should prevent erosion, disguise the stumps and roots, and provide lots of color. And I think my MIL would enjoy the birds and butterflies that the flowers would attract.
So, has anyone here ever bought bulk wildflower seeds? If so, if you were happy with your vendor and the quality of their seeds?

That is such an amazing idea! I am sure she will love it. No clue about where to get seeds though.

Depending on how much you need, here is a place that offers regional mixes and special situation mixes. I have ordered wildflower mixes from a company in Texas, whose name escapes me at the moment, so I need to look through my files and get back with you. I think this place is in North Carolina. bulk wildflower seed

And I would also check local gardening centers, not Big Box stores, who would certainly carry a mix suitable to your area.

what is bulk to you? 1/2 # a whole #? a couple pounds? We have a local company that has by the pound annual wildflower lo-gro mix and annual cut flower mix @ $19.00 a pound. If you are interested it is Berlin Seed 1877 464 0892. plus shipping. I could go buy it for you and ship it but I am not sure when I will get there next. could be tomorrow or in three months. I am sure shipping would still be close to 10.00 though. I mailed something for my sister last week that wasn't all that heavy and it was still 8.50. there has to be something closer to you than this though. do you have a farm animal feed store or an elevator by any chance? check there.

Thanks for the suggestions, all! carolyn, depending on the mix I'll need 3-5lbs to cover that whole lot. I appreciate your offer, but I'll order directly from whichever vendor I choose. You see, it's already planting time for wildflowers here so I need to move on this. I would have done this already if I had thought of it sooner! pondgardener, that bulk wild flower seed place you linked is one of the ones I've been looking at. Thanks! As to local garden centers, I am not aware of any that have re-opened since the storm. Even now, only some of the big box stores have any plants or seeds at all, and their stock is limited. They are still devoting a lot of garden center space to shingles, lumber, insulation, drywall, etc.

I have been looking in my catalogs and the most economical is an Amish place in Indiana called E&R seed. Unfortunately they don't have a phone. Mail order only. If you are Interested in their info let me know. The blends are specific to regions or types such as perennial or butterfly, cut mix, etc. $20 - $30.00 a pound
