I have a Brinkman vertical offset smoker. It is not the best, but has worked well. The firebox is almost burned out, so I’m studying pellet smokers.
my grill is a plain ole charcoal grill
What do you use?

I have a Weber gas grill that I love. I used to buy a cheap one and it only lasted 1- 2 years so I had to replace it. Then one year about 8-10 years ago I bit the bullet and bought a Weber grill. What a pleasure. It cooks so much more evenly and it is still in great shape. The cheap ones always got rusty.
I love the stainless steel grates and I use it all of the time in the warmer months. Grilled veggies are fabulous.
I am not a big fan of smokers. I just don't like the taste of smoked meats very much.

We had a gas grill that came with the house. We only used it 3 times in 7 years so we gave it away to a friend who needed a bbq. We bought a Big Green Egg about 4 years ago. Absolutely love it! Obviously not for quick hot dogs, but we make bbqing into an all day celebration of cooking and do two or three items all at once.

It has been many years since our last charcoal grill and that one was a Weber kettle grill. I got lazy and began buying cheap-o gas grills. They lasted from 5 to10 years before the parts rusted out and had to buy a replacement. A couple of years ago I got on the made in the USA kick and researched a grill manufactured in the USA. Found a Huntington brand gas grill. I am not sure it will last any longer but... I use my grill mostly for meals for two but it is big enough to feed the whole family. The temperature controls work better on the Huntington than on the cheap ones like Char-Broil and other Way-Mart specials.
My son has this humongous smoker he loves to use. Don't know the brand but he puts big turkeys and other huge chunks of meat in it.

The same as Blue, a medium sized Green Egg. It’s all I need.

I have several. I guess it depends on how often you use it. I use mine year round, so I take special care to keep them clean.
What do you cook most?
Here's mine. Each one has a specific use.
A 7 burner gas grill,
18" charcoal
12" charcoal
a madterbuilt smoker
Oklahoma Joe's wood smoker
I use them all depending on what I'm cooking.
The little 12" is great for dogs and burgers.
of course then there's the Dutch ovens.
i love cooking outside.

I clean out my grill once a year before I start using it heavily and this thread is inspiring me to do that and start grilling some food.
3 years ago I neglected the cleaning step and started using it and I had a big grease fire. A year's worth of frequent cooking puts a lot of greasy stuff down in the bottom of the grill so now I am sure to start the season clean and have not had any problems since then.
I noticed more even cooking and less flare ups (none really) since I got the Weber grill.

I forgot to mention that we won't be able to move the BGE with us when we go into the apartment. We are however, giving it to my Son. He has a Weber Smoker and is thrilled to inherit the Egg with the Understanding that we still get to come over and use it on the occasions when we are itching for some good BBQ!

Don't laugh, but they make some real nice indoor table top grills. I had one for years. I poked a little fun at my wife when she bought it, but it was real good for hot dogs and burgers.

hairymooseknuckles, We've actually discussed indoor grills. Maybe once we are moved we will consider one? Right now I'm trying to get rid of the excess, not buy more

I have a gas grill and a park grill. the heavy kind you find at the park. I use that as a pseudo smoker. the charcoal and chips on one side and the meat on the other when smoking. I smoked a lamb roast on it for the first try a few weeks ago. Never smoked a thing in my life. I figured I wasn't out anything if I ruined it on my first try. It was actually awesome. I was very impressed with it. So this past week i thought I would smoke a pork roast for Easter dinner. oh my...that could have been a disaster. I rubbed it with a spice blend and bit of sugar.... smoked it for two days and it was terrible. tough and getting dried out. So, washed it off and I put it in the crock pot and added some water and cooked it for another day before putting it in the fridge for Sunday. I took it out and put it on the counter in the crock pot for all of yesterday. whew! it passed my families expectation.

We have a Bradley smoker with the cold smoke attachments. Have used the cold smoke part only a couple times. We got a super buy on Bradley wood pucks and common replacement parts for the smoker, so likely have a near life time supply at a deep discount when a sporting goods store folded. The smoker lives in its own little building out of the weather. The building is quite robust and secure as when at times it is run from late night to early morning unattended, there will be bear tracks around the building.
We do the on sale gas grill option every so often. Also use the wood fire HOBO stove a lot.

I’m spatchcocking a turkey on the Green Egg Wednesday. I will be using a Sugar Maple rub and putting seasoned frozen butter between the skin and the meat on the breasts. Undecided about using any smoking wood.
