Thanks guys! It's been a wierd day so far for sure! Spent the morning with my girl cleaning our church and getting it ready for a conference this weekend and when we went to pull onto our street afterwards we couldn't do so! The cops had blocked it off and were not letting anyone down! I pulled over and got out to talk to them and they clearly didn't want me to get any closer, but when I told them which house was mine they started asking all kinds of specific questions about my neighbors! Honestly, the way they were carrying on and the way they were setting up a perimeter, it looked as though they were concerned that our immediate neighbor's adult son had done something terrible to himself and/or his parents. I had a police officer escort my son out of our house and down the street to where we were, and THEN they managed to get ahold of our neighbor on the phone who said he was home, as well as his wife and son. The wife then came out to talk to the cops and we were told we were free to come and go at that time. So then the kids and I decided to go to lunch so we weren't looking like we were being nosy neighbors and we end up at a Mexican place. The waiter took forever to get to us and when he finally did, assured us that dessert was on him. I then proceeded to have a most spectacular mango mojito, chimichanga, and a fried cheesecake with churros and ice cream. Now I'm home digesting. We still have chocolate cake from DD's birthday yesterday, but I'm not so sure I'm going to eat again today. I'm SO full! My brother and oldest niece are coming over tonight for one last board game night before DD heads off to college. Bittersweet day in that regard for sure! Thanks so much for the birthday wishes!

ladymarmalade, a similar thing happened to me when I came home from work one day about 20 years ago. We heard that the 16 year old daughter of a neighbor 2 houses away was dead. We were a little scared that there might be a murderer in the neighborhood but it turned out to be a suicide. Very sad.

ladymarmalade, a similar thing happened to me when I came home from work one day about 20 years ago. We heard that the 16 year old daughter of a neighbor 2 houses away was dead. We were a little scared that there might be a murderer in the neighborhood but it turned out to be a suicide. Very sad. On our other side we have a family with five small children who are little escape artists and kleptos. (I can tell Mom and Dad are overwhelmed!) As we were coming down the street I saw the flashing lights and my very first thought was that one of the kids was missing, hurt, or had managed to drive a car down the street. The whole thing was disconcerting for sure. And then after playing back my conversations with the police, and putting together a few other things, my DH thinks that some nosy neighbor (who lives down the street a way) called in that he hadn't seen anyone leave the house in a long time. Our poor neighbor is newly retired and they have been enjoying either being home all day or being gone for days at a time all summer long. He was going to go check on them last night but by the time he made it out to the backyard they had gone in for the night after sitting on their deck and he didn't want to disturb.

My husband does lawn mowing for banks who have repossessed properties and he has one that is a former swim club with attached baseball and soccer fields. It is very large.
Last week he was mowing when a police car came down the driveway. In a short time several more police cars arrived. The 80 year old lady on the road leading to the swim club called 911 for a "break-in in progress". Hubby was sitting on a big commercial lawn mower and didn't look much like a burgler in his bright green T-shirt so he told the cops that it was a "mowing in progress" and they all had a laugh.
He is mowing there today so I wonder what will happen this time.
