In another month the ground here will be warm enough to plant okra.
Someone here posted about "whipping" okra plants.
Can someone please elaborate on this? Why is it done, how is it done and what are the results supposed to be?
I've always planted C. Spineless, which in OK would send up a single stalk and reach so high that I'd have to bend it to get the Fall crop. If I broke off the top it would send up side shoots, each of which would make blossoms. Is whipping supposed to make those side shoots?
I have found that multi-branched okra was a pain to deal with--I did not break stalks on purpose.
