I tried out my new Large Green Egg Saturday Brine about half a jar of molasses a half cup of salt a gallon of water Heat until dissolved then marinate the pork in it for at least 8 hours. Trim off excess fat. Rub with mustard then coat well with a spicy dry barbecue rub of your choice. Last coat with mashed peach preserves thickly and put in a smoker with some pecan wood chunks for about 10 or 11 hours or until the internal temperature of the butt is above 200F or until the meat probes like butter and you could easily pull the bone out. I made pulled pork out of it Sunday, no sauce, and made myself a taco. Then I sat down and started the New York Times crossword puzzle. Near the finish I heard some snuffling and gulping. Wait! Where's Waldo? Waldo is standing on his hind legs eating pork right out of the pan. He carefully removed the aluminum foil and ate about a half a pound before he got caught with the evidence on his face. I replaced the foil and put it in the fridge, he hasn't figured out how to open that yet.

Just look how Shiny and Clean that baby is! You cook a few things with a sticky sauce like that and it won't stay clean for long. But that Peachy Piece of Pork looks Divine mgulfcoastguy,

So did you buy a new Egg because you wanted something shiny and new? Or to give your nephew something to cook on? You're a Good Uncle for giving him the old one.

bluelacedredhead, I had been planning to do so for a few years. The corona virus caught me with money that I had saved for traveling and the old medium was well worn, needed a new gasket and new stand as well as having the dome realigned. It was a bonus to give it to my nephew. He is thrilled and already plans to make a table with it. I threw in all the accessories that fit it, the looftlighter, most of a bag of charcoal, and some surplus rubs I had around. It might be his only inheritance from me so best that he enjoy it while I can enjoy him enjoying it if you get my meaning. As to my formerly virgin white Egg, Big Bertha, that was her first rodeo.

You named her Big Bertha, that's so sweet.
I totally understand the feeling of the gift of an Egg. We gave our Son ours when we went into an apartment a year ago. He loves cooking on it so much that he sold his large propane BBQ. He cooks on the Egg as many nights as he can, weather permitting. And they make a greater variety of dishes than we ever get did although part of my problem is a spouse who won't try anything different. Enjoy B.B. and keep the pics and recipes coming please 😁

I would love love love and egg... but not right now. maybe if we had a place to store it inside I would consider it but until then... not happening. maybe some day we will add another garage onto our house so we have a one floor living with the garage "upstairs". our house (which I would NEVER build again) is a bilevel with the garage underneath the bedrooms and you have to come up the stairs from the garage to go into the kitchen. never again. what a stupid house plan.

They do just fine on a concrete or pave stone pad outdoors and it's safer than having them on a wooden deck. Besides they are heavy and take a long time to cool off.

carolyn , we have one of those stupid house plans too! You have to come in a downstairs door, go down a hall passing a family room, go up a full flight of stairs in the middle of the house to get to the kitchen dining area. Hauling 8 bags of groceries up the stairs was easy when we were young and fit, but now it's a drag with bad knees. The house was built by some vacation people from another state, but they were of retirement age when they did it, so I don't know what they were thinking. And other stupid layout problems including putting the furnace and water pump and pipes in part of the unheated uninsulated garage -- you do not do that in Minnesota where winters get to -35 below and lower. But we were young and were more interested in the property than the house and had no experience in knowing what problems to look for. Back to the egg, I would love to inherit one! Lucky nephew! But I don't do enough cooking or grilling to warrant the price on my own.

You can't always put a price on a hobby. They aren't cheap but many say that they make the money back on less eating out. With a little practice you can usually do better than a steakhouse or a barbecue joint, and McDonalds doesn't have a prayer. Basically my federal stimulus check plus about $200 paid for the large Egg, the cart, and the indirect cooking set up on the inside of it.It would have taken me about $400 to refurbish the old medium Egg. Plus the new one has a lifetime warrantee on all of the ceramic parts and a 3 year warrantee on the metal parts which are stainless steel.

You can't always put a price on a hobby. So true! My greenhouse was a retirement present to myself. I'd made do with a self-constructed one first, (just me!) of 2x4's and plastic, and then a larger plastic square tent on a heavy metal frame. I've never spent much money on clothes or fancy household goods, so it was time to splurge once. I can sure understand the Egg for those that love to barbecue!
