Over the years on other boards, Martin has generously sent me seeds of every kind of tomato I can think of. I now have second and third generations of his tomatoes.
Today I planted from his 2016 generosity of tomato seeds 80 San Marzano seedlings. Tomorrow I will plant 80 2016 Roma's. Again these are next generation or in this case fourth generation, but they all started with Martin's seeds.
I also have a few of his Black Prince and 5 other specialty tomato seedlings (names of which I cannot recall now because I'm so tired), totaling another set of 80. Some of the specialty ones are the original seeds he sent because I found them in one of the magazine sheets he inserted. I thought I had gleaned them all in 2016 and 2017.
Martin, I know we have never met even though I live just an hour north of you, but your generosity is unparalleled. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart.

Thanks, girl! It's apropos that you posted that today. Hundreds of others could say the same. I never sent out anything that didn't deserve to be grown forever by the recipient. I already informed SSE members that this was my last year of listing there. As a result, there have been some really big requests. I am awaiting a request for 53 varieties that a Michigan member wants. Then I will probably be done. Next goal will be to see the harvest from what has given me a purpose this year.

Martin; Despiter ther lousy weather and late frosts I have tomatoes a foot high with BLOOMS.
?he weather has been terrible, wet, cold. My garden is so soft I can hardly walk in it and the weeds are starting. Yesterday I decided that I would mud in and put down cardboard around the tomatoes.
Imagine my surprise to find blooms on the frost survivors. Wife gave me hell abut the mud on my boots.
Ground is still not warm enough for okra, melons, etc. Onions, doggonit, are starting to bulb. Some are two feet high though, so they should be at least usable.

solargeek , We are about 4 hours from Martin. Each of the 3 or 4 times (or has it been 5 times?), we have stopped by his house it has been a pleasure! One can always expect a garden tour ..... it’s not a super large garden but very compact and impressive .... including a drum composter and a pigeon aviary, gold fish pond, and plant hot house. And .... my favorite .... Hostas! Besides treasuring the seeds Martin has shared, I have always looked forward to the variety of postage stamps he used for mailing them. The post office is generally closed on Sundays! Yet, one year my seeds arrived with a cancellation mark indicating they had been mailed on a SUNDAY. AND furthermore, that particular Sunday was the very day the Packers played, and won the Super Bowl title! The postage stamps used for that mailing were Commemorative stamps celebrating the successes of Vince Lombardi! AND .... also ..... a Commemorative stamp featuring Frank Lloyd Wright who was a personal friend of Martin’s family, and someone who I have always held an interest in. (Check out the photo below) That combination was not the result of coincidence but was carefully orchestrated by our own paquebot . I feel blest to be able to call him a friend. imgur.com/gallery/o5gsI.

I thought Martin to be a seafaring mam because of his screen name. Turns out he was a Marine and collected stamps wherever he landed. His autobiography would be an interesting read, and his gardening remarks are valuable. I just wish I had access to the stables he visits. None such anywhere near me. Yo, Martin!

What I said about the sharing coming to an end is true. At 7:30 this morning, given a choice of going to the hospital or staying home to face another night of uncertainty. Set the oxygen concentrator at 4 liters and back to bed until 1:30. Two weeks of extreme pneumonia symptoms are wearing on me. If given the same choice tomorrow, my breakfast order for Saturday will be a deluxe omelet. Morning cooks at the hospital are greeat!

paquebot , Martin, maybe you need to pull back on the garden work. You have done so much lately, did not realize you were working through pneumonia symptoms! Please rest and relax, even if it is boring.

paquebot,Please rest and relax, We know it's really boring, but gardening can wait a little while, you will be needing your strength to pick and save all the veggies and seeds when they come in...

Does anyone here have his phone number? Is anyone close enough to go check in on him?

Thanks for the concern. I didn't make it through Thursday night. Fell off the cliff around 3:30. EMTs called and off to the ER. ER brought me back to normal long enough to arrange for a room in the hospital. Goal there was to get everything under control quickly and out of there before something serious happens. Three nights was long enough since there really wasn't much new. Just have to figure out a maintenance program to prevent or control it. Lungs do not regenerate well. Once damaged, it's forever. We may be on the way to finding way to deal with it. Just need to get all of the doctors on the same page.
September, I will never stop gardening. I took my very first steps in a garden and my maternal grandfather died hilling his potatoes.
